  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Normally on Tuesday we have Liturgy but this week, as we will be Celebrating Liturgy for the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross on Wednesday , we will be serving Hours [ 3rd and 6th ] on Tuesday.

Now for my problem - we have a couple of Ukrainians not long arrived with us , and 1) their English is not great :( and 2) we don't as yet have contact [ phone/email ] details for them - they normally come on Tuesday for Liturgy . As we are taking Hours and this is something with which they may not be familiar ,I'm being crazy enough to take as much as possible in Ukrainian [ which I've not actually used for the last 5 years !! ] I'm OK for things like the Usual Beginning etc and the Psalms will be taken in English BUT I have not been able to find the Troparion and Kontakion for the Forefeast ! Can anyone supply it for me - I have it in English but not in Ukrainian - and I do mean in Ukrainain and not Slavonic or Russian.

I really need this within the next 18 hours as I'll need to practice it and strangely enough I want it in Cyrillic NOT transliterated

I know - I'm daft - but we really do try and make our Ukrainians feel at home with us - we do have a fair number now and as a result our Parish is growing rapidly !

Your help will be greatly appreciated

My sanity has just been saved :) thanks to Archer :) :) :)

Most of our Ukrainian Refugees are actually Slavonic Liturgical Usage but these ones who will be with us on Tuesday are actually Ukrainian Usage !

This little saga has a very happy ending :)

This morning I took in my bilingual copy of Hours and Typica together with Propers in Ukrainian, ready for Hours.

It was really lucky I did as not only did we have the Ukrainian lady I anticipated being present , but she brought 2 others with her neither of whom have any English other than "I not know English' !!

Our monk and I looked at each other and decided we would take it in Ukrainian/English[ for the Psalms] for 3rd Hour and then English for 6th . We had just one other member of our Parish present [ he's a Scot and English only ] Our Ukrainian lady realised I had a copy in Ukrainian and when I had started very timidly in Ukrainian, came and stood with me and very happily started to read with me. Valentina was a wonderful help today - we will very happily include her reading in all our Services when necessary.

When I go in tomorrow for the Feastday Liturgy I'll take the Propers in with me in both Languages and I'll leave a bi-lingual copy of Hours and Typica in the Chapel ready for use. We are expecting all 3 ladies for Liturgy on Sunday so I'll have the Propers in both languages ready for use as well.
