  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

But Met. Isaiah is a solid, good bishop.
It was a Star Trek joke.
Warp, impulse, and auxiliary power.
No one got it, it got zero likes. Lame.

Metropolitan Isaiah is a great bishop. You can tell by the growth of the parishes under him and the caliber of clergy that serve him.
Of all the bishops in the GOA, I think Metropolitan Isaiah is the only one that I've not heard a single negative thing about.

Yeah. That was lost on me since I've never watched Star Trek, other than passing the living room when my parents were watching the original TV show back when I was a kid. ^_^

Yes. He's been a blessing to us here in Colorado.

Does anybody else find this somewhat bothersome? Or is it just me being picky? I think assistants to the bishops should be clergymen lower in the hierarchal line, not a fellow bishop subordinated to such a position. Am I being a jerk for thinking this?

This came up because my bishop (who's 90 or a few years older than that) is getting an auxiliary bishop, which I understand that he's old and probably will retire soon. If the "auxiliary" bishop is the next in line to assume Met. Isaiah's spot, I guess I can see that. I admit, I'm a bit nervous who will eventually take his place.

Is that how it works at times with auxiliary bishops, Fr. Matt?
Auxiliary bishops have always existed, often called "chorbishops" in the canons. When Saint Paul wrote to the Philippians, he addressed an plurality of bishops. (Phil 1:1) I'd like to see the restoration of more ancient orders personally, like deaconesses, exorcists, the doormen, etc!

Are you referring to ushers?
No just unfriendly, hostile people.

Like, the sort of person who asks if you're of a certain ethnic group and when you answer in the negative they rudely reply, "well why are you here?"

Haven't seen that in years. But then again, I've been back at my home parish since October 2019, and that didn't happen to me when my family first attended Archangel Michael GOC here in the Springs back in 2007. But I think it's less ethnic the more west you go.

I think its the relative isolation from other parishes compared to the East Coast.
