Brother, happy Sabbath! The animal sacrifices were just a stand-in for the future death of Jesus. Without Jesus' death, all those animal sacrifices would be worthless because they borrowed credit from Jesus' future death.
As long as you remain a sinner, "you will die" on judgment day! Jesus' victory over death is to turn a sinner into one obedient to the commandments that show he is no longer a sinner. Jesus described this as being "born again"!
Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. (Romans 8:12-14 NLT)
Animal sacrifices were God's daily provision to eliminate past disobedience to the commandments and give you another chance to remain obedient to the commandments. How God turns our disobedience into obedience is separate from the commandments that show sin.
Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them. (John 14:21 NLT)
Obeying the commandments shows our victory over sin thanks to Jesus' daily service as our High Priest. Turning daily in prayer to our High Priest in heaven to remove our past disobedience gives us another chance to remain obedient to the commandments. Keeping the commandments is not something that is quickly mastered, it takes many tries, like learning to play the piano. We need Jesus to remove our past disobedience to grow up in obedience to the commandments, by Jesus giving you many tries, like a child who learns to walk by getting up again and again when he falls.
Here is the main point: We have a High Priest who sat down in the place of honor beside the throne of the majestic God in heaven. There he ministers in the heavenly Tabernacle, the true place of worship that was built by the Lord and not by human hands. And since every high priest is required to offer gifts and sacrifices, our High Priest must make an offering, too. If he were here on earth, he would not even be a priest, since there already are priests who offer the gifts required by the law. They serve in a system of worship that is only a copy, a shadow of the real one in heaven. For when Moses was getting ready to build the Tabernacle, God gave him this warning: “Be sure that you make everything according to the pattern I have shown you here on the mountain.” (Hebrews 8:1-5 NLT)
United in our hope for the soon return of Jesus, Jorge
