  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So how is that BLM thing going?

and how did BLM respond?
you've equivocated here between an individual BLM chapter and the BLM international organization. AFAIK, the BLM organization had no comment. but, again, the cops (or a few of them, at least) did this, not the BLM chapter. (arguably, they shouldn't have, because cops can officially show no favoritism towards political factions. but I can see both sides. part of me likes that cops did this, despite my contempt for the BLM organization.)

I'm thinking of a number between 1 and 100...
true, I don't know exactly how they would have responded. but if you come in with, say a QAnon t-shirt, you'd get a different reception than if you yourself wore a t-shirt showing a clenched first with the feminist logo, for example.

you'd also get more honest answers after a couple of months/years of knowing the BLM chapter members than from a five minute conversation. about anything, really.

yuour inital statement was:
"autonomous to an extent, yes, as long as they stay on-brand. if a local BLM chapter decided to, say, put on an event showing their appreciation of local police, I think that they'd get in trouble about it."

Its tough to refute something that is divorced from reality.

And yet I, and others, have been refuting everything you've claimed so far.

I provided a link which showed that you had an incorrect memory of the events which occurred. individual cops showed solidarity with BLM (the idea), not the other way around. I have explained this more than once.

Where do they operate from now?
The 3rd. The dude that murdered Floyd was a training officer so he was teaching the new generation proper police procedure. While he was showing his trainee how things work in the 3rd, he slipped up and murdered a man. If he would have survived and nobody caught it on camera it would have been business as usual.

You don't really live there do you?

How could you possibly forget that the 3rd precinct burned down in 2020?

Making things up again.

Really? I love a quiz. Let's do one. I'll give you some quotes and you tell me if they are racist or not. When you do, I'll give you the context and show why you got them all wrong.

I don't like Chinese.

No.

The Irish aren't really that smart.

Yes.

I'm not hiring any black guy.

Possibly.

You Welsh can hardly string a sentence together.

Yes.

Whenever you're ready...

Now it's your turn...I'll keep it simple.

"Black people are lazy".

Keep in mind I'll be asking for your definition of racism and if it includes any sort of examination of power dynamics....be sure to include those in your explanation of whether or not that statement is racist.

I told you that you'd get them all wrong.

Chinese? I'm biased against all people within an ethnic group for no other reason that they are part of an ethnic group? Racist.

Irish? I was talking about dumb tactics that the Irish football team used playing against the English. So I was talking about a team and not an ethnic group (I'll be trying not to use the word 'race'). So not racist.

Black guy? Wahddya mean 'possibly'? They are all 'possibly'. But you said you could tell without any context. So it either is or it isn't. Pick one.

Welsh? I was talking to my wife when she mangled some phrase. We're both Welsh so if it was meant seriously then I'd be including myself. If I said it to any other nationality and meant it, then it would be racist. But not in this context.

So you failed on all except one, which we're waiting on one (and you'll get that one wrong as well).

And 'black people are lazy'? That's exhibiting prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular racial or ethnic group. Paaarp! Racist.

Don't forget to answer the one you couldn't tell one way or the other.

The 3rd percent is an area or a way to describe that part of town (like some cities describe a part of town as 3rd ward) In Minneapolis they are described by precinct or neighborhood name. No I don't live in the third, my old girlfriend did and I stayed with her family for a time. Precinct buildings move all the time. In the 5th where I grew up it moved 3 times in 15 years.

Yeah it was set on fire by Ivan Hunter a native of Texas and a rightwing extremist and member of the Boogaloo Bois.

That group did a lot of firebombing while everybody blamed BLM.
