Much of the bible account can be demonstrated to be inaccurate.
Some times only a small inaccuracy, sometimes the whole story.

Do you go with the facts, or feelings?

If the LDS folks had kept their gold books, I would believe them.
Finding Noahs ark would convince me.

As for "off-topic" you and "AV" are the primary drivers of the off topic conversation of late (and he's incorrigible.) I went back and found what appears to be your entry into this thread:

In it you just rejected the entire conversation as foolish, because you claimed your god said so and then implied that there would be consequences for not conforming to your interpretation of that text. (An reading that you pass of as being divine and unquestionable.)

After that you occasionally (in the beginning) veer near the text of Genesis 1-9, but have spent most of your posts trying to demonstrate how skillful you are at extracting claims from your scripture while preaching at the rest of us. At no point have I seen you address the OP's proposal to reconcile Genesis 1-9 and modern scientific discoveries.

Taking Genesis literally was initially a problem because there isn't evidence for a consistent global flood that would have destroyed and remade the surface of the Earth. The delicate sedimentary layers and fossil structures would not be left by a process of one gigantic flood over a single year.

Sounds to me like they were not taking Genesis literally to begin with. If they were, they wouldn't be thinking of the flood happening on a globe.

I think most of the reasons are obvious. Money, fame, and in this case to also push the theory of evolution. There are those who oppose scripture, and would encourage anything that is against it. Pride is also an issue, as when most find out that they were wrong, they would choose to double down instead of correcting things. Of course there is Satan influencing most; he deceives the whole world, and the father of all lies. The understanding and belief of the majority is based on lies.

Fame: Ok, without Googling, name the world's most famous paleontologist.
Without Googling, name the paleontologist who "discovered" the T-rex, the Stegosaurus, or the Pterodactyl.
Without Googling, name any paleontologist.

Because the best I can come up with is Dr. Alan Grant, and he's the fictional character from the Jurassic Park series.

Push the theory of evolution: Circular reasoning, because now the question is why push the theory of evolution?

Fame? Name a famous evolutionary biologist besides Darwin himself.

The majority has long believed in creationism.
But never mind that.
Opinions about Satan etc are a dime a dozen.
