• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Many OCD Christians fret about committing the "unpardonable" sin.
The answer doesn't lie in trying to convince you otherwise, but in being aggressive against your OCD by
  1. receiving treatment from a psychiatrist &
  2. going to a church that has a healing ministry.
HERE is one such church...

it’s not about me, it’s whether my mom committed this sin by saying what she said.
An unbeliever cannot commit the unforgivable sin, only someone who has gotten Saved and deliberately denounced the Holy Spirit afterwards.

Unbelievers are clueless about God's ways.

This has to be besides the understanding of how to receive God's free gift of Eternal Life. The most misunderstood ans miss-taught area of the New Testament. This sin (blasphemy of The Holy Spirit) is not an individual sin a person can commit.

This sin is only found in Matthew 12
This sin was a national sin that only the Nation of Israel could have committed against the promised Messiah, when He was physically on earth offering the nation of Israel, the Kingdom of God.

The sin was saying or contributing the work of the Holy Spirit
(the healing miracles Jesus was doing Then one was brought to Him who was demon-possessed, blind and mute; and He healed him, so that the blind and mute man both spoke and saw. And all the multitudes were amazed and said, “Could this be the Son of David?” )

not to God but to (This fellow does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.”)

This is the blasphemy against the Spirit and no person living today can commit this sin. So your mother, you or anyone else can not commit this sin today.

So the Pharisees were saved?
They, at least, knew enough about God to be held accountable.
That is not the case for your mom.

Do not be concerned God will not hold her responsible and she did not commit the unforgivable sin by what she said.

I talked to my mom about my OCD struggles which involves blasphemous thoughts.

Did you also talk to her about how she could help you with your struggles with intrusive thoughts?

You are not responcible for your parents spiritual condition, you have no responcibility there.
In talking to them about Jesus you have done your duty.

However your parents do have a responcibility to help you with your mental health.

Please share with them the contents of the free web site:-
25 tips for successfully treating your OCD.
You need to talk to them about point 4, which advices you not to talk or argue with intrusive thoughts, but just acknowledge them and then move on.

Do not worry about the unpardonable sin. When Jesus spoke about the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, He was specific talking to the Pharisees. The Pharisees in Jesus day committed this sin by telling Jesus He is demon possessed, knowing that Jesus was sent by God, and did the miracles of God, and that Jesus was fulfilling the prophecies about Messiah, and lot of things that only the Messiah could do, and possibly even knew He was Messiah. This was the situation Jesus was referring to, this was the unpardonable sin the Jewish leaders committed. Yet this leaders still closed their eyes and called Jesus a demon to which Jesus said they just committed an unforgivable sin. How could they have done so? Because their hearts were evil, and they desired to do what their father desired, satan (John 8:44) and thus they were jealous of all that Jesus did, because they could not, and they were afraid they would lose all their disciples to Jesus and this was bad since they were treating others as below them and they thought of them-selves more than others. And also because Jesus shone His light upon them and their sins were revealed.

Don't worry, you cannot commit such sin. Neither can you lose your salvation as many falsely teach today. Those who say salvation can be lost, don't understand the power of the cross and the work that Jesus did. Remember Jesus said He will not lose one of His sheep.

Your mum has not committed and unforgivable sin either. Some say this is rejecting Jesus, but we are all rejecting Jesus, until the Holy Spirit in His mercy touches our hearts. When I was an unbeliever, I behaved like I was above everyone, a false god, I was a sinner, telling my Creator I knew better thus I was saying I was more than God. Yet in His mercy, He forgave me, as He can forgive your mum. Hope this helps.

Welcome to CF. The unforgivable sin is dying in unbelief. Mom has a chance ! And you have a condition, God knows your heart. Be in peace my friend!
Blessings.

No, as a believer, you have already passed from death to life.
She is an unbeliever who does not believe there is a God, she doesn’t know the Holy Spirit is good and God and she is very ignorant. Later on she said the Holy Spirit has what I have ( OCD ). I am so scared she committed the unforgivable sin. Is this unforgivable? I regret telling her. Please.
All her sins will be forgiven the moment she repents.

As an unbeliever, she is already existing in the state of blasphemy against God. That blasphemy will only be released when she repents.
There are no excuses for rejecting God because the Holy Spirit speaks directly to the heart of every man and woman ever born. Blasphemy constitutes rejecting that Holy Spirit conviction.
Romans1v18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.

She is in control of her choices.

Completely and utterly wrong, biblically wrong.
The only people who are always unforgiven, are those who reject God's forgiveness, ie. unbelievers.

Once a man is born again, he passes from death to life. He is a son of the most high and will always be a son.

So the Pharisees were saved?
Good question Niclas, and good evidence the following (post no6)was wrong
An unbeliever cannot commit the unforgivable sin, only someone who has gotten Saved and deliberately denounced the Holy Spirit afterwards.

Unbelievers are clueless about God's ways.
The answer is that Jesus told everyone that the father of the Pharisees was the devil! In other words, they were very much godless unbelievers. He also told them they would die in their sins. Again proof that the Pharisees rejection of God meant they would die without forgiveness.

Romans1 clearly states that all unbelievers know sufficient truth because God has given it to them.-
Rom10v18The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness,
For anyone to suppress the truth, it must first have been given.
19since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.
And there it is, the truth given.
20a.For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen,
So, even though invisible, God's qualities, his divinity etc. have been clearly seen in creation by all mankind.
20b. being understood from what has been made,
And not just seen, but fully understood.
20c. so that people are without excuse.

As can be seen here, God accepts no excuses at the judgement. That's because the Holy Spirit convicts every heart, deep within every man. Rejecting that conviction is what blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is all about.

So, despite any evil thoughts in your head, or mouth, against God, That doesn't exclude you from eternal life once given. Think on this, if we can lose the gift of eternal life, then it wasn't eternal in the first place!

It is certainly forgivable. The cross that Jesus bore covers all of our sins, every sin we commit between the time we were born to the time we die.

Heb 9:27-28 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many.

Speaking, talking, or thinking evil thoughts, is not blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. We should not attempt to do it, or live with a bad attitude. But it is not blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.

Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is denying all of the things God does to try to draw us to salvation. God will always attempt to bring us to Him, if we deny all of His leading, that is Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. The Pharisees were not just speaking evil of God, they were denying every miracle Jesus gave, saying it was "of the devil". As for your mother, neither you nor I know what God has or has not done for her. We can not judge whether she is denying Christ, or just not yet informed enough, to make a decision. GIve her the benefit of the doubt, think positively of her, despite her speech.

Niclas, are you getting any help for your OCD? I've struggled with it since I was a child, and I know how difficult it can be to deal with. Is fear of blasphemy your only obsession, or have you had others?
