  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does the Bible teach about Purgatory?
Does purgatory exist?

No it does not.

If you believe in purgatory and paying your due for wrongs done then Christ died and rose for nothing.

Peace be to all those in the Body of Christ.

Considering how many reject Him amd His Church, you could make that argument. However, I would characterize it as He didn't "died and rose for nothing."

Bible does not tell us everything about world of after life.
precisely why the Church's view on Purgatory is limited. God didn't reveal much about it, so the Church cannot define it as clearly as some want.

To be fair, Purgatory is not believed to be a second chance at salvation or an alternate way there.

It's supposedly only for those who are going to heaven ultimately; they still need some preparation, you see. Traditionally, the preparation is suffering big time--same as hell--only not forever.

Lately, the church has been trying to say it's just a kind of quick orientation session in view of the fact that hardly any Catholics think they're going to Purgatory instead of straight to heaven.

I have no idea what Scheol is, but read Hades is the formal name for Hell.

There is a lot of thought herein for after death, but I think that what God wants us to know is that without the Lord Jesus as our Savior, one will NOT enter Heaven, but be cast away forever.

Hades is a holding place appearing adjacent to the Lake of Fire. We see in Scripture that there were originally two aspects of it: one on the side of "a great gulf fixed" with Abraham and faithful OT saints; and on the other side of the 'gulf' a place --adjacent to the 'lake of fire" (Hell); there the lost souls were held in captivity. Later in Revelation we see that all lost souls in Hades will be cast in to the 'lake of fire', after Satan is cast there in the end of judgment.

We read that when Jesus died He went to the place known as Hades where Abraham and the faithful OT saints were and took them 'captive' unto 'paradise'. Thereafter that place has become the holding place for all souls in this age who die without the Savior; and those of us who are "born again" saints who die will go directlly to Heaven.

There is more to this I could speak about, if one wishes to write me privatelly. -1watchman

do you have any scripture that backs this claim up?

One can see 2 Cor. 5:8 for one, and a number of verses that the Lord Jesus stated show a "born again" saint (as John 3; John 14; Romans 8; etc. IS a "child of God" and thus belongs to Him --not in judgment in Hades & Hell. One needs to be reading the four Gospels and the Epistles to learn the mind of God.

thank you. As I figured you referred to no scripture that says all born again Christians go directly to heaven. Hey it is nice thought, it just ain't scriptural.

How can Jesus' resurrected body- which is physical, can enter Heaven?

Do you not know, friend, that Jesus is God in the flesh, and God is a Holy Spirit? When Jesus -the Man died He ascended to His Father. When saints of God (redeemed ones as John 3:16) go to Heaven they will see the Lord Jesus --God; for no man will EVER see our Creator in the flesh, except in Jesus-the Christ! Read your Bible New Testament, friend; and feel free to write me privately if you wish to chat about our Bible. -1watchman

The answer is that it is (as you said) his resurrected body.

Read the Bible verses that describe what Jesus was like after the Resurrection.

His closest friends didn't recognize him, and he was apparently able to walk through walls. So while this was the body that was crucified, it had been changed, just as the Bible says will happen to us.

I have, many times. And I know what you claim is not backed up by scripture. I thought I'd give you a shot. No worries, I know the answer.

Yes the Bible teaches purgatory and the church has always believed in a post mortem purification.
Search “William Albrecht” on YouTube for scripture teaching and church fathers on purgatory

In no way does the Bible teach a Purgatory. The idea of Purgatory was invented in the late Middle Ages and was based upon fragments of unrelated Bible verses here and there that in no way confirm all the specifics that the Church assigned to the place it called "Purgatory" and which are necessary for Purgatory be and do what the Medieval church claimed for it.

Cool opinion, not true though:

You are also appealing to the false doctrine of sola scriptura in your reply and then applying your false interpretation of that scripture.
