  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are we all made in the image of God?

Where does the Bible say that God made them in His image?

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them."
Gen 1:27

It says that God created them to be male and female.

But he created him in his image.

Also, where does the Bible say they were physically perfect? What does it even mean?

"God created humankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them,
male and female he created them." Genesis 1:27 NET v 2.1

Translator's not about "humankind": The Hebrew text has the article prefixed to the noun (הָאָדָם, haʾadam). The article does not distinguish man from woman here (“the man” as opposed to “the woman”), but rather indicates previous reference (see v. 26, where the noun appears without the article). It has the same function as English “the aforementioned.”

I'm not sure what translation you use but it might be time to change. It's not a good idea to base doctrine on a mistranslation.

It doesn't matter if other translations have "man", as the English language has changed. "Man" is now more inclusive, such as humankind instead of mankind for example. The newer translations more accurately translate the Hebrew meaning.

You're basing your doctrine on a meaning that isn't accurate in 21st Century English. It's just an attempt to denigrate women.

Except of the KJV and the Brenton Septuagint, the rest are the 21st century translations.

Also, "him" is quite clear. Humanity is not "he".

So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
NASB, ESV, NJKV etc.

So why do your preferred translations have "male and female He created them"? I'm not going to explain this to you any more, since you can't/won't understand the plain meaning.

I do not know, ask those translators, they are educated specialists, not me. Its their job to know.

I do not speak ancient Hebrew. I cannot even read the letters. But I doubt that the vast majority of translations got it wrong.

Adam and Eve were physically perfect. God made them in His image.

But what about all the people who were born with genetic defects? If we were all made in His image, why don't we all have perfect DNA? Millions of people have defects known to only be caused by flaws in either how an ovum is fertilized or the DNA itself - not anything the mom did wrong while she was pregnant.

Partly right. Adam and Eve were physicaly perfect. As for their descendants, us, we have defects. And these defects only get worse with time. Because of entropy, all living things will eventually go extinct. That is why God's intervention is needed.

But "image" is a representation. Not an exact copy. We are supposed to represent God by our actions, not by looking like God.

The consequence of sin is hell. If we are forgiven of our sins there are no consequences, just blessings. Paul took his past sins and made it part of his witness, to bless us all with his story.
Without learning the consequences of our self serving actions, there is no understanding of sin.

The problem is in not being able to draw a straight line to the Father. A male's view (orthodox) is bi-liniel, thru the Son to the Father, thereby in seeing oneself in the place of the Son. While duing so the male also puts himself in the place of the mediator between God and female, still in the role of the Son. That worldview from the church places gender female as not on any level with the Son. I'm quite sure that's not scriptural. The problem is, once again, in not being able to draw a straight line to the Father.

iow, why, in that worldview projected by the church, do females have no standing in Christ?

Typical of a male dominated institution that was never much good at following scripture, preferring their own doctrines ( a way of saying don't question us).

Galatians 3:26For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. 27For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

It clearly stated that anyone in Jesus who identified as male, is one with Him, hence a so called male (including any females who do so, Mary the Magdalene being a prime example).

It exemplifies to me that the unwary who follow Paul are also unaware of what he actually taught. I’m sure his wry sense of humour is missed a lot. Ironic.

Millions of people have defects known to only be caused by flaws in either how an ovum is fertilized or the DNA itself - not anything the mom did wrong while she was pregnant.
The following are some teachings from Catholicism:

355
"God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him, male and female he created them."218 Man occupies a unique place in creation: (I) he is "in the image of God"; (II) in his own nature he unites the spiritual and material worlds; (III) he is created "male and female"; (IV) God established him in his friendship.

I. "IN THE IMAGE OF GOD"

356 Of all visible creatures only man is "able to know and love his creator".219 He is "the only creature on earth that God has willed for its own sake",220 and he alone is called to share, by knowledge and love, in God's own life. It was for this end that he was created, and this is the fundamental reason for his dignity:

“What made you establish man in so great a dignity? Certainly the incalculable love by which you have looked on your creature in yourself! You are taken with love for her; for by love indeed you created her, by love you have given her a being capable of tasting your eternal Good.”221 Catherine of Siena

357
Being in the image of God the human individual possesses the dignity of a person, who is not just something, but someone. He is capable of self-knowledge, of self-possession and of freely giving himself and entering into communion with other persons. And he is called by grace to a covenant with his Creator, to offer him a response of faith and love that no other creature can give in his stead.

358 God created everything for man,222 but man in turn was created to serve and love God and to offer all creation back to him:

“What is it that is about to be created, that enjoys such honor? It is man that great and wonderful living creature, more precious in the eyes of God than all other creatures! For him the heavens and the earth, the sea and all the rest of creation exist. God attached so much importance to his salvation that he did not spare his own Son for the sake of man. Nor does he ever cease to work, trying every possible means, until he has raised man up to himself and made him sit at his right hand.”223 St. John Chrysostom

All disciples claiming to be male (females also), as Witness Lee taught, isn't biblical either. The new man of the gentile age was completed with the nation of Rome crumbling into a mixture of clay. That is the false image of man made in his image.

True but repentance comes first and that cannot happen unless we know why we chose God's will over man's.
God's Love comes first, we hear (see/experience) this Love, we trust (have faith) in God's undeserved, unconditional Love, humbly willingly accept His Love as pure undeserved charity in the form of accepting His forgiveness and then our of the resulting Godly type Love gifted to us we can repent (a gratitude type reaction).
