He did make a false statement. That is why it's possible or likely that he lied, which is the topic of this thread. His false statement is at the core of this thread.

In this thread, which is focused on Gorsuch's false statement, you asked: "Why do we have ignorant people who jump to conclusions?" Your question isn't in response to another particular post. The context of it is that it is being asked in response to the thread in general, which is based on the OP. So it stands to reason that you are referring to the subject of the thread: Gorsuch.

Despite grammatically being correct to assume you were referring to Gorsuch, I didn't; I instead asked you. And indignantly you have twice not provided a straight answer and instead accused me of making statements, which is false.

So what group (because you said people, plural) were you referring to? Who is in that group besides Gorsuch, or instead of Gorsuch?

Why are you so evasive about clarifying your question, especially considering how defensive you are when follow the logic to ask if it is about Gorsuch and those like him?

I thought you didn't group people together and paint them with a broad brush stroke? OK, I'm not being honest there - I knew you did group people together and paint them with a broad brush stroke and I gave examples in another thread, but this thread you give a perfect example of how you do that with no problem despite claiming that you "never" do that. LOL, the hypocrisy is delectable.
you simply want to argue for the sake of arguing apparently it is entertainment for you, I have other interests. have a nice day.

No, I asked you to clarify your question. Why do you find that so difficult that you want to run away from the discussion?

What group are you talking about that jump to conclusions? And why do you paint that group with such a broad brush stroke???

this was explained back in post #2, you are attempting to create an issue where no issue exists or even should exist.
Incorrect. Did you read it? It is rather clear you did not understand it. Gorsuch made a false statement. Post number 2 tells you that a false statement is not necessarily a lie. Which is very good news for all of the Trump supporters here.

Go back to the OP and read Gorsuch's statement. How was it not false?

That is very bad form. Just admit that you were wrong. People will not hold it against you.

I told you I am not playing any game whatsoever. I am participating in the discussion. I asked you a perfectly natural question in the course of this discussion.

If you don't want to answer at least be honest about it rather than blaming me by making up a lie that I am "playing [a] game" or "argue just for the sake of arguing".

As @Subduction Zone said, just admit you were wrong and leave it at that. Blaming me by making things up about me is dishonest, transparent, and is actually the only game being played by anyone here.

Then why respond? You are not fooling anyone. By the way, when I first posted here I made the same sort of error. Guess what I did when I realized that I had done so? I owned up to my mistake. You can still see my posts. I did not edit them or delete them.

When a person own's up to his errors others quickly forgive him. If one does not do so, others will keep bringing those errors up.

I guess the only answer I can give since you wouldn't clarify when I asked is for you to follow your own advice on making generalizations about groups.

Consider the following:
"I would suggest that you not make statements that broad brush groups and suggest that they can be stereotyped." (TRUMP 2020)

That is a rather broad brush statement dont you think? kind of insulting as well.

There is no proper way to use terms that broad brush an entire group of people, most of us are very aware of what is being done when people say things that suggest that all ____( fill in the blank) are alike and should be expected to act and believe in a predetermined way. I could come up with several examples but I avoid using examples or making statements that discriminate against groups of people. [????????] apparently your knowledge of compassion is limited base on what you have written in this post. Yes this woman made a mistake, possibly many mistakes, just as the rest of us make mistakes and exercise poor judgment. I do not know if those decisions were "rooted in rebellion, hate, violence, and mostly pride". And you do not know that either, but I am not going to presume to judge her or her motivations beyond acknowledging that she made some mistakes. I take it seriously when Jesus said "judge not lest you be judged". I am not at all concerned about your opinion of my credibility. The people who have read a few of your posts undoubtedly see a consistent pattern.

I will not go on about compassion although you had quite a bit to add about that as well...

What you did is known as declarative question. Gorsuch did not make a false statement, he was making a general statement based on his recollection of something. I did not make a statement about Gorsuch. I made a general statement.
which was FALSE! Perhaps, maybe even a lie!

Justice Neil Gorsuch slammed after he suggests flu kills "hundreds of thousands" each year

"We have flu vaccines. Flu kills—I believe—hundreds of thousands of people every year," the conservative justice said in an incorrect assertion. "How do we regulate that?" he asked.

He needs to openly correct his fallacy or be removed. If we cannot trust a Supreme Court Justice to speak the truth, then we are in trouble.
It's worth noting as to what the article you linked to now says:

Many on social media criticized and mocked Supreme Court Associate Justice Neil Gorsuch after they incorrectly believed he suggested on Friday that the seasonal flu kills "hundreds of thousands" each year in the United States. A correction on the court's official transcription issued Monday morning cleared up the issue. This article, too, has been corrected accordingly.

...

After multiple emails and phone calls, the Supreme Court's Public Information Office confirmed to Newsweek on Monday morning that the initial transcript was incorrect. The transcript has been fixed to say, "The flu kills, I believe, hundreds, thousands of people every year"—which is accurate.

So it turns out the premise of this thread is wrong, because Gorsuch never made the claim that hundreds of thousands of people died from the flu. The idea he did came from a transcript error.

Sorry, but it is not accurate. One has to go by the context of the quote. This article offers a little more context:

' "The flu kills people every year," Gorsuch said. "Traditionally OSHA does not regulate in this area."

"COVID-19 is unprecedented," U.S. solicitor general Elizabeth Prelogar responded.

"We have flu vaccines. Flu kills—I believe—hundreds of thousands of people every year," the conservative justice said in an incorrect assertion. "How do we regulate that?" he asked.'

Justice Neil Gorsuch Slammed After He Suggests Flu Kills 'Hundreds of Thousands' Each Year

Clearly he was speaking about flu deaths in the US since he referred to how OSHA does not regulate the flu.

The flu kills tens of thousands a year. Not hundreds of thousands. While the Corona virus killed on the order of a million. The "Covid-19 is unprecedented" claim was valid.

I am sure that Gorsuch understands his error now. The question is will that affect his vote?

What I find interesting is that we are not privy to the actual audio of either Gorsuch or Sotomayor saying what they said, and we have to rely on someone writing a transcript. Well, who is this transcript writer? Is the person a conservative hack? I say we need to change the laws all across the country so we can actually hear the judges, lawmakers and lawyers in every word they speak so that these partisan transcript shills stop changing words and adding apostrophes giving us a false sense of security! We need the Transcript Ninjas on the job!

By the way, serious can be serious, so why are we up in arms about a serious condition?
A child with a fever, increased pulse rate or respiration rate can be categorized as 'serious'

• Undetermined - Patient is awaiting physician and/or assessment.
• Good - Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious and comfortable. Indicators are excellent.
• Fair - Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious, but may be uncomfortable. Indicators are favorable.
• Serious - Vital signs may be unstable and not within normal limits. Patient is acutely ill. Indicators are questionable.
• Critical - Vital signs are unstable and not within normal limits. Patient may be unconscious. Indicators are unfavorable.

Please read my post again carefully. The point I was making was that the article that was linked in the opening post was changed to say the article was wrong when originally saying Gorsuch said "hundreds of thousands" when he actually said "hundreds, thousands". Neither I nor the article said anything to defend the "hundreds of thousands" claim, rather the point was that it seems Gorsuch didn't say that to begin with.

We are privy to the audio. The Supreme Court has audio of the oral arguments on their website. The audio for the case in question is available right here:
https://www.supremecourt.gov/oral_arguments/audio/2021/21A244

Gorsuch gives his statement about 1:51:50 in.

Okay, I see the claim from the Newsweek article. That appears to be the only source that says this. And worse yet they included no links to the transcript. Too bad that we do not have a recording so that we could hear what was said. Many reporters heard hundreds of thousands. I am not sure that I can take the word of one source over the others.

EDIT: I see that a link has been added. Thanks.

He must listen to the same right-wing influencers my dad does, who says the same sort of nonsense.
