• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Evolution and Morality just isn't logical

What is your evidence for this statement?

Your two paragraphs appear, to me, to contradict each other. The first paragraph contradicts the notion that evolution led to morals, while the second is wholly consistent with the notion that it did.

The evidence and a carefull analysis of that evidence support the notion that morals are an expression of evolved behaviours. On that basis evolution and morality are intimately connected and so, to invoke a genetic fallacy, is erroneous.

OBJEVTIVE evidence. Make sure it is objective empirical evidence!

Under deontology Stealing is an absolute moral where we cannot steal no matter what the circumstances. This is a rule or duty based ethic.

I did not ask deontology, I asked you.

I doubt said philosophy is so rigid as to allow for no
nuances, such lesser of two evils, or to go to specifics,
the escaped p.o.w. who took a German fighter- plane
and flew it to England.
Its a real stupid " philosophy" says tsk naughty, must not steal.

Anyway, i asked what you think.

OK I understand. Objective morlaity is not absolute morlaity. So objective morlaity can accommodate circumstances but still the moral right that to do has to be determined beyond human subjective opinion.

THis is a very difficult scenario. War time is an unusual circumstance. Killing may be justified if stopping a greater moral wrong like Hitler or the Taliban killing innocent people. That can include taking an enemy plane to stop these bad people.

Yep. Each case has to be thought about. Some people want rigid rules
because thinking is hard.
