In that case your entire thread is misleading, School is not providing “Sexually explicit material to minors” .

You are mistaken - yes they are.

Even State Governors are saying it.

In addition from the link:
The governor made the request in a letter to Superintendent Spearman after he received examples of pornographic materials found in schools from concerned parents in Fort Mill. In addition, the governor has notified the State Law Enforcement Division to evaluate whether any state laws have been broken as a result.
Not singular

“If school personnel had performed even a cursory review in this particular instance, it would have revealed that the book contains sexually explicit and pornographic depictions, which easily meet or exceed the statutory definition of obscenity. Thus, I am concerned that further examination may identify additional instances in which inappropriate materials have been introduced into our State’s public schools.”

Video of a Virginia mom confronting her local school board over pornographic materials has gone viral after she read aloud graphic texts and displayed the shocking images in question.

The clip shows mother-of-six Stacy Langton, whose two eldest kids attend Fairfax High School, first explaining during her speaking time at Wednesday night's Fairfax County Public Schools board meeting that after seeing stories about certain pornographic books in other school districts around the country, she decided to check the titles at her own kids' school.

"Both of these books include pedophilia," Langton told the board. "Sex between men and boys … One book describes a fourth-grade boy performing oral sex on an adult male. The other book has detailed illustrations of a man having sex with a boy."

Langton went on to hold up the graphic illustrations for the school board members to see and began reading excerpts from the books. Then, school board members interrupted the mother, with one telling her, "There are children in the audience here."
I am prevented from linking the article because it links to the photos.

They appear to show drawings of child pornography by depicting acts of pedophilia.

One book even includes a “fourth-grade boy performing oral sex on an adult male,” Nomani reported.

11/12 is too late, IMHO
You don't know what is in that particular book so you can't know that it was too late, which it wasn't. Third grade boys aren't having wet dreamers. ;)

Have parents heard of parental controls for what their children have access to? They are on PC, phones, Netflix, YouTube, etc.

I spent money to buy and install recommended parental control software. One month later while checking history I found that someone had been to a website I had blocked. My family meeting resulted in my children snickering and one of them saying, "Dad, we got around that 2 days after you installed it."

My takeaways: Supervising children's content is a parent's job, but parents have to be vigilant. It's not a one-time thing. Nothing is foolproof. Never underestimate the resourcefulness of a curious adolescent. If kids can't look on their device, they can surely look on a friend's.

We solved the issue for a large part in our home by having the computer in the living room with the monitor in direct sight of the television.

There were no TV's or computers in bedrooms. Solved a whole host of problems.

just found several sites that said they can start as early as 8 yrs old

parents discussing it happening to their 8 yr olds, also

if girls can start periods at 8 or 9, 3rd grade is not too early to discuss sex with kids
even earlier to discuss body changes
hormones in foods have moved up puberty as well as weight gain
some parents go to Drs to stop puberty cause it's happening SO early

also, kids are talking about sex & body changes with each other at very young ages

Which is even more reasons why pornography and sexually explicit material should NOT be in a school library

I completely agree. My daughter's parental software blocked all sites unless she chose them to be available.
Now that he is a sophomore in high school she's had to loosen up for the sake of schoolwork but she continues to check history.

I agree that both girls and boys should understand how the reproductive system works, why menstrual periods happen, and how pregnancy happens but there isn't any reason that I can see for sexually explicit photos or language.
I don't think that I missed out on any necessary information when I was taught this in the 4 or 5th grade. Boys and girls were taught separately so that hopefully they would feel comfortable asking questions.

They are there, but by the time they are teenagers, they likely know how to get around those parental controls. At least, as long as their parents are not more tech-savvy than they are.

Just because parental controls don't always work doesn't mean that parents should not do the best they can to provide a safe, wholesome environment for their children, whether at home or in schools.

(Children often look back on it later and appreciate that their parents cared.)

It's a very broadly worded question.
I would support sex education in schools, but I wouldn't support passing around porn magazines and videos.

And the kids probably understand them better than their parents, including how to bypass them!

there is a long and ugly history of claims of explicit materials being distributed to school children. They invariably turn out to be false claims. I remember a right wing group in the 80's claiming that graphic gay porn on was being distributed to middle school children. It turns out the gay porn was a not graphic pamphlet on HIV/AIDS that was part of an education workshop that took place in the school districts administration building during spring break.
During the 1970s in New Zealand, "The Little Red School Book" was distributed around schools. This book was basically a pornographic sex guide for school children and contained descriptions of explicit sex acts. It was similar in appearance to the Little Red Book distributed by the Communists of the time which contained Communist ideology. There is now a law in NZ that prohibits giving sexual advice to persons under 16 years of age, so anyone giving out copies of the Little Red School Book, could be arrested and charged under that law. A school library in NZ could be subject to a complaint under the law for having sexually explicit books available to minors under 16 years of age. I wonder if there are similar laws in the U.S.?

When I was active duty stationed in the Philippines, my squadron had a big punch bowl full of condoms on a table by the door.

The message of that bowl was, "If you got 'em, use 'em." I can't see any way that distributing condoms doesn't sent the same message...that seventh graders ought to be engaging in sex...the school even says so.

But there is so much more happening in a person's psyche than a condom can cover.
Ought to be engaging in SAFE sex if they choose to engage in sex.

Most kids don't but don't you think that those who do should have access to condoms?

I mean anti-abortion activists should be LAUNCHING trebuchet sized bundles of condoms at high schools and universities.

No, but it DOES mean a policy of avoiding dealing with issues at schools by banning any reference to tehm is doomed to failure.

Making references to them, and actually providing them to the kids are 2 different things. Sure, kids can look up porno on their computer at home, but it shouldn't be encouraged by providing it in school.

I read a bunch of stuff some grown ups wouldn't have wanted me to read. And, I never became those things or did those things I read about. But, I did learn some things about the world, and wasn't corrupted in the process. Give our kids some credit.

Some kids learn better than others. Most follow by example. Just like when their parents are certain ways, their kids usually do the same because the example shown by the parents is what they accept as normal. I've seen it while growing up, and I see it all the time now. Even within my own family, it's shown to be true. My brother followed the examples of my Mom while I took after my Dad. Same goes for what it shown as acceptable in schools. The kids are taught certain things are normal, and they generally accept it.

sounds good to me! Give them a spot they can grab some condoms from for free. I'm all for it. I'd rather make it easy for them to get the protection they need to prevent pregnancy and STDs rather than just pretending they aren't already doing sexual things.

Providing condoms is basically teaching kids that it's acceptable to have sex as children. May as well also provide prostitutes as well so they won't have to walk around on dangerous streets at night looking for one. Maybe even provide some FDA approved Marijuana so kids who want to do drugs won't end up with stuff laced with Fentynal.
