  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I do not wear a cross myself, if people want to wear a cross, that's fine, my own mom wears a cross.

I get the impression people are very divided on this and some people are even deeply against it and I would like to know why?
Jehovah’s Witnesses are the only ones I know that object to it.

I was lurking on another Christian forum with a thread simular to this. It was some time ago.
and a person there wrote something like, why would Jesus want to be reminded of that day if a fashion like that. I hadn't noticed before that any Christians having an issue with Cross pendants. That's why I asked. Other than that, I also only know of Jehova's Witnesess that object to it.

Well, JWs don't believe that Christ was crucified on a cross, so that probably accounts for them having a unique dislike for any image of a cross, everything else aside. But I don't think this issue really does divide Christians very much overall.

Having lived in the Mecca of Mormonism I’ve been challenged with questions such as this. Think of the cross as a Purple Heart. If someone earned a Purple Heart sacrificing their life for yours and you received it in their Will, how would you perceive and treat it? Needless to say they never ask that question twice.

I don't care either way, but the reason some Christians are against it is because it symbolizes the instrument of death ...which isn't even true for two reasons ....Jesus gave up the ghost, no one took it. And secondly, the cross so to speak is more defined as a stake or large pole, it did not have a cross member....
One persons argument was ....if your brother was killed with a shotgun ....would you hang that around your neck...which is a good point. Regardless, it is the symbol of Christianity and it looks better than hanging a pole around your neck.

Jews are particularly upset by the wearing of a cross as it is associated with the failure of the Church to protect them during the Holocaust.

Strange as they dont believe in Jesus or in Christianity!

Try walking into a shop in Israel with a cross around your neck and feel the atmosphere go cold...

Its only because they dont believe in Jesus as the Messiah.

I think the jews dislike the cross or Christians in general because, they consider Christians to be idol worshippers because we have Jesus in so high regars.

Then there is that video with that Rabbi calling white people descendants of Esau and Amalek.

Them disliking the cross has nothing to do with WWII.

Oh yes it does...

Israeli's are very sore about how so many churches deserted them and many feel God deserted them during the Holocaust.

Theologizing a la the Jehovah's Witnesses is out of place on this "Christians only" forum.

It might by devout Jews, but when I visited Israel, I found a number of Christians living there --including our guide; and a good reception in our tours by the Jews ---maybe because it meant some income for them???
