  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

And the context was Greeks and Hopi. What are these Greek and Hopi scriptures? I am not aware of them.

Plato's Timaeus and Critias

Book of the Hopi

OK, we have written versions of the Greek and Hopi myths and legends as recorded by Plato and Frank Waters, respectively. Do the Hopi or ancient Greeks revere these written versions of their stories as scripture?

of course they are scripture

the best writing of the Greeks and Hopi

Generally, people consider some writing "scripture" if it is "sacred". Since you and I are not Christians, we don't consider their Bible as sacred, but they do, and that's why it is scripture. Do the Hopi consider Frank Waters writing down of their myths and legends to be sacred? Do you have any knowledge of the Hopi and their opinions of this text? (not just the myths and legends inside it, the actual text which is in English.)

1. considered to be holy and deserving respect

Why do you consider them "holy"? You are not (to my knowledge) a practitioner of Hopi religion.

I can understand that people in other religions find a text sacred and consider it scripture (for example, Muslims and the Quran) without considering it holy or sacred myself.

Perhaps it really is holy. Really is sacred.

And in that case I can benefit by learning.

Is "holy" or "sacred" an intrinsic property of things or ideas?

Or, is it something we assign to things that we care about?

God is holy intrinsically

Which god? I don't know the Hopi religion, do they even have gods? Are they also the Greek gods (since the Greek legends of Atlantis are the source of this)? Are they the same as you Buddhist god(s)?

I don't have time to work out all of the various gods and keep track of them, so I genuinely don't know the answer.

There are multiple levels of heavenly realms

Zeus is part of a lower heaven

The Hopi speak of The Creator
