  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello HTacianas, did you read the OP? It is about scripture from the bible to prove what the Lord's day is. Do you have any scripture that proves that Sunday or the first day of the week is the Lord's day? As posted earlier, we know what is written outside of scripture from the teachings and traditions of men but what does the bible actually say and does it support that view? (scripture please)

I read your OP. You strung some scriptures together and gave us your interpretation of it. That's about it. And your conclusions contradict two thousand years of Christian history.

Isaiah 66:23
And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord.

Seeing how Yahweh blessed the 7th day and hallowed it in Gen 2, what authority did Ignatius think he had to trample on hallowed ground?

Especially when we see the 7th day Sabbath being kept in the future according to Yahweh's own words.

This isn't about Moses or Yeshua being Lord of the Sabbath. It is about man thinking he can pick any day he chooses because he misunderstands Paul.

So because they ate a meal on Sunday, somehow that means Yahweh changed the Sabbath to Sunday?

Nope. Not buying it.

How about all the NT verses where they preach at the synagogues or beside a river on the 7th day Sabbath? How do these compare with Gen 2, Exo 20, and Isa 66?

Good points you made here TK thanks for sharing them with us. I think God in writing the 4th commandment of the 10 commandments somehow looking into the future knew the world would forsake His 4th commandment when he writes "Remember" the seventh day to keep it holy...

God bless

It says right here:Act 20:7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

HT where does it say in this scripture you provide here from Acts of the Apostles 20:7 that "the Lords day" is Sunday or that Gods' 4th commandment of the 10 commandments has now been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday of the first day of the week as a holy day of rest? - It doesn't. Now according to the scriptures in Acts of the Apostles 2:46-47 God's people met everyday of the week. Of course this means Sunday or the first day of the week and every other day of the week. Does this make every day of the week a holy day and a commandment of God? BTW the reason Gods' people met with Paul in Acts of the Apostles 20:7 was because he was departing the next day. It is written in the very scripture you posted.

Hope this helps

It says right here:

Act 20:7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

The Greek text of that verse does not use the word commonly translated as "preach" SGD 2784, which means "to announce". Instead, the Greek word used there is SGD 1256, which means, "to discuss", "reason", "dispute", or "talk."

The disciples came together to eat, which was their custom, and Paul started a discussion with them. Why did he start a discussion with them on that particular day? Because he was "ready to depart on the morrow." Clearly, he had used that first day of the workweek to pack and get ready for his departure in the morning.

Acts 20:7 has nothing to do with the weekly day of worship and has even less to do with any alleged change of the weekly day of worship - which has never happened. Remember Isa. 66:22-24? The context of that verse is still in our future.

And here I thought every day belonged to the Lord... silly me.
Hi topher694, thanks for joining us. Indeed the Lord made every day but as shown in the OP it is only the Sabbath day that he blessed and made holy and claims as His holy day of rest *Matthew 12:8; Mark 2:28; Luke 6:5; Isaiah 58:13; Exodus 31:12-18; Leviticus 19:30; Ezekiel 20:12; Deuteronomy 5:15; Leviticus 23:3; Exodus 31:15; Exodus 20:10. "The Lord's day" therefore according to the scriptures is the Sabbath day not Sunday or the first day of the week. The latter is a man-made teaching and tradition outside of scripture that is not biblical.

God bless

The question is not about certain days that belong to Lord and certain days that don't.

The Sabbath was given to mankind for the benefit of mankind (Mark 2:27).

The rest of the days of the week are for work, shopping, trading, household chores, regular daily activities, etc. as per God's instructions (Exodus 20:8-11).

And indeed, Christ, through whom the Father created all things, claims Lordship of the Sabbath day (Mark 2:28). So the Sabbath day, in particular, is declared by Christ to be under his authority. I believe him.

Oh, so if people worship God and rest on the wrong day that's bad, eh?

According to the scriptures we can worship God everyday like the early disciples did as it is written in Acts of the Apostles 2:46-47. God's 4th commandment of the 10 commandments however is very specific and the only day according to the scriptures that God blessed and made a holy day of rest as a memorial of creation and a celebration of God as the creator of heaven and earth (see Exodus 20:8-11; Genesis 2:1-3). According to the scriptures if we knowingly break anyone of God's 10 commandments in the new covenant we stand guilty before God of sin *James 2:10-11. According to Hebrews 10:26-31 if we knowingly continue in unrepentant sin after we have been given a knowledge of the truth of Gods' Word we will be in danger of the judgement. Sunday worship is a man-made teaching and tradition that has led many either knowingly or unknowingly to break God's 4th commandment seventh day Sabbath. Jesus also says in Matthew 15:3-9 if we knowingly follow man-made teachings and traditions that break the commandments of God we are not worshiping God. This also poses the question if we follow man-made teachings and traditions that break the commandments of God who then are we worshiping; God or man?

Hope this is helpful

So we can worship God any day but it is a sin to worship Him on Sunday? Nope, not helpful.

Everyone did not go wrong. God's people all through time have continued to keep Gods' seventh day Sabbath unbroken to this very present day according to the scriptures and the historical records.

Which historical records are those?
