Perhaps another read at the New Testament. The Pharisee was following Jesus around looking to see if He was going to break the Sabbath. They accused Him of breaking the Sabbath, but Jesus never did. John 15:10. If there was a change this big there would have been an uproar in scriptures. Jesus met with His disciples before ascending back to heaven. Jesus would have said something if there was a change to one of His Fathers commandments, especially the holy day of the Lord thy God that is the seventh day Sabbath. Exodus 20:8-11, Isaiah 58:13

The Sabbath day was the only day in the entire bible that was kept holy. It's the day Jesus kept Luke 4:16 and the day the disciples kept Acts 18:4 and the Sabbath day we will continue forever as God's holy Sabbath day to worship Isaiah 66:23 as it is God's chosen day and when we obey the Sabbath we are obeying God’s authority and not traditions Jesus warned us about Matthew 15:3-9.

I agree, we are not going to agree and we also will never see scripture in the bible that says the first day is the holy day of the Lord thy God like we clearly do with God's Sabbath day. Exodus 8-11, Isaiah 58:13 We do not need anyone to interpret this for us as it is so clearly written in our bibles. All you have to do is read what is right in front of you and obey God's Word.

God bless.
Hi SabbathBlessings,

I'm glad to see you're still active here on the forums!

When you wrote this part,
If there was a change this big there would have been an uproar in scriptures. Jesus met with His disciples before ascending back to heaven. Jesus would have said something if there was a change to one of His Fathers commandments, especially the holy day of the Lord thy God that is the seventh day Sabbath. Exodus 20:8-11, Isaiah 58:13
the passage in John 16 came to mind where Jesus says that he has more things to tell his disciples, but they can't bear them now. When did he finish telling them everything? Different people have different ideas, of course.

I think he was dropping a hint about worship on the Sabbath when he said to the Samaritan lady that the day was coming when those who worship the father would worship him in spirit and in truth.

In our most recent conversation, I believe you talked about the principle of tithing. The implication I took away from that was that you don't necessarily follow the letter of every commandment about tithing. But you follow the principle of the tithing commandments, or the spirit of those laws.

I think when I brought up the commandment to put fringes on our clothes, it was a similar idea, going with the meaning of the commandment. Worshiping in spirit.

I know in the past we've also talked about how in following the principle of the commandment we don't break the letter of the commandment. But I'm not sure how that fits with the tithing commandments and the fringes on the clothing instruction.

What are your thoughts?

Here's looking forward to a fruitful discussion, and not going in circles :hi:

Sorry if you do not understand the significance of when you obey and keep holy God's Sabbath day that God thinks of it as a sign between us (those who obey) and Him.
The point that you apparently missed was that the post you were responding to had said that Jesus and his Apostles never placed any special emphasis upon the Sabbath.

Your reply not only didn't rebut that claim but appeared instead to confirm it, in that you did not even allege that Jesus or the Apostles had done so but instead changed the subject by making references to "God" and citing Old Testament verses.

(Is the Sabbath really as important as Sabbatarians say in the NT?)

Introduction:

The word “sabbath” appears 60 times in the New Testament in the King James Bible. The word “love” appears 261 times in the New Testament (KJB). The word “charity” (love) appears 28 times in the KJB. This would be a total of 289 occurrences on the word “love” if we were to combine them together. While there may be more words on love, this helps to show us that the weekly Sabbath is not as important as the two greatest commandments (Which are based on love and runs contrary to Ellen G. White, and other Sabbatarians making it appear like the greatest command is the Sabbath). The variation on the word “gospel” appears 104 times in the King James Bible. Again, this is almost at the reach of double the amount we see for the word “sabbath.” The word “grace” appears 131 times in the NT (KJV). Note: This search was done by typing in the desired keywords followed by an asterisk symbol (*) at the following KJV search website here.

Conclusion
:

Not once do we see the word “sabbath” used as a command in the New Testament. Not once do we see the word “sabbath” (or a related word) used as a reference to a person being condemned or not keeping the “sabbath.” For there are no sins listed as sabbath breaking among the other list of sins that the apostle John and the apostle Paul mention in the New Testament. In fact, the largest list of the use of the word “sabbath” (as mentioned in this study) is in reference to activities in having a liberty in regards to the “sabbath.” (33 verses for approximately 7 liberties or actions done on the weekly Sabbath day). One would expect to find that if the Sabbath was as important as SDA's and Sabbatarians claim, there would be numerous examples in the New Testament of the necessity of keeping the weekly Sabbath command but it simply does not exist in the NT. Actually, the NT suggests the exact opposite in that the weekly Sabbath command is no longer binding upon believers under the New Covenant. For we cannot make assumptions that the Mosaic Laws that were given to the Jews under the Old Covenant applies to Gentile believers under the New Covenant. If there was ever a time to resolve the weekly Sabbath command issue, it should have been addressed to us at the Jerusalem council in Acts chapter 15 (But it wasn't). On the contrary, we learn that Gentile Christians are not under the Law of Moses (Which would naturally include the weekly Sabbath) (See: Acts of the Apostles 15:1, Acts of the Apostles 15:5, and Acts of the Apostles 15:24). Christians also gathered on the first day of the week (Acts of the Apostles 20:6-7) (1 Corinthians 16:1-2), and nothing is said that they also gathered on the weekly Sabbath for brotherly and sisterly fellowship. The only time we see in the NT the apostles out and about on a weekly Sabbath was to evangelize others in missionary work. So in conclusion, the SDA or Sabbatarian view of the Sabbath in the NT is clearly not as they would hope it to be in their major focus of promoting the Sabbath. For me: Colossians 2:14-16, Romans 4:5, and Acts of the Apostles 15 stand as powerful testimonies against those who say we must keep the Mosaic weekly Sabbath command (Despite the Sabbatarians' odd interpretations on these verses). Just by looking at the usage of the word “sabbath” one can honestly come to the conclusion it is not in the way that SDAs and or Sabbatarians desire. So we can say with confidence that the Lord's day is Sunday in Revelation 1:10, and not Saturday because we can see a pattern in Scripture of the phasing out of the Old ways (Which would include the Sabbath). I hope this was a blessing to someone today.

May the Lord's goodness shine upon you all.

With loving kindness to you all in Christ,

Sincerely,

~ BL. Highlighter.

Hi Leaf,

Nice to see you again and hope things are well for you.

I do think there is a lot instore for us in Heaven and our brains probably could not handle yet everything that is planned for God's saints. I do not think it will be a different day of worship. God says He does not change, something as personal as the holy day of the Lord thy God that God personally wrote with His own finger and stored in the Most holy of God's Temple does not sound like something to me where God changed His mind about, especially when God specifically asked us to Remember. Plus we show the Sabbath continuing to be God's holy day of worship on the New Earth for eternity Isaiah 66:23.

My guess its new things that Jesus has instore for us, things we would not be able to fully comprehend until we are united with our Savior. All I know is, I hope to be there to find out and hope you are too. :)

God bless

I didn't miss the point, God emphasized the importance of His Sabbath day and that is good enough for me. Jesus also told us the Sabbath was meant for man Mark 2:27 and there are close to 60 references to the Sabbath in the New Testament. I wonder if you're reading the same Bible because it's all right there plainly to read. Jesus keeping the Sabbath Luke 4:16 (if Jesus is at the Temple every seventh day Sabbath, that's where I want to be), the disciples keeping the Sabbath Acts 18:4 and of course the holy Sabbath day of the Lord thy God will continue forever Isaiah 66:23. Jesus said if you love Me keep My commandments John 14:15, John 15:10, 1 John 5:3 God's commandments are not at odds with Jesus considering Jesus came to do the will of His Father and came to magnify the law Isaiah 42:21 (which does not mean make lesser).

Yet still no scripture stating the Lord's day is the first day and we still have scripture God saying the holy day of the Lord thy God is the seventh day Exodus 20:8-11, Isaiah 58:13 which is why the seventh day Sabbath will be the day we will worship our Lord on the New Hearth and New Heaven Isaiah 66:23 and not the first day because God deemed the first day a working day Exodus 20:9 and not a holy day Exodus 20:8. Hope this helps.

God bless

Sorry if you do not understand the significance of when you obey and keep holy God's Sabbath day that God thinks of it as a sign between us (those who obey) and Him. That's something very special and it's a blessing and delight according to our Creator and Savior. Isaiah 58:13-14
All things considered, it looks like "Bible Highlighter" was correct.

I go by scriptures and not people for God's Word.

I did provide verses. However, these verses were not accepted by you because you want to see the Sabbath command in as many places as you can in the Bible because of the teachings given to you by the SDA church (No offense of course). The apostles may not have come right out and said… “the Lord’s day is Sunday” in the Bible, but it is implied by numerous Scriptures I already provided. So what is your biblical support for the Lord’s day in Revelation 1:10 as being the weekly Saturday Sabbath?

I believe the Lord's day is Sunday.
Why? Because if we see a list of things called, the Lord's supper (1 Corinthians 11:20), cup of the Lord (1 Corinthians 11:27), and the Lord's table (1 Corinthians 10:21), and we read about how Christians gathered on the first day of the week for the collections (1 Corinthians 16:1-2) and we read about how they gathered on the first day of the week to break bread (Acts of the Apostles 20:7) (Which is the Lord's supper), then we can conclude that the day that Christians celebrate these things would be called the Lord's day. Again, it is highly unlikely to conclude that John was referring to the Saturday Sabbath when he said the “Lord's day” in Revelation 1:10. Why would John refer to the Sabbath in some kind of code word? He simply would have simply said Sabbath if it was the weekly Saturday Sabbath.

It does not even make any sense that the Lord's day would be the weekly Sabbath because the Sabbath was made for man and man was not made for the Sabbath. The Lord's day is a day we honor Christ's death with the breaking of the bread and in in drinking of the cup of the Lord.

Lord's supper, Lord's table, cup of the Lord.... Lord's day.
The disciples broke bread on the first day of the week (Sunday).
The Lord's supper involves breaking bread and drinking of the cup of the Lord.

Again.... this is the Lord's day.

The resurrection and ascension is the pinnacle of God's plan of redemption for mankind. It surely is the Lord's day (Which is a day above all others). It was God's greatest act. The resurrection & the ascension to the Father. A conquering of death and sin. Christ can now be our Heavenly High Priest between us and God the Father because He entered the temple by His blood (After He told Mary not to touch Him).

Truly Sunday (the discovery of the the empty tomb from His resurrection and His ascension told to Mary) is a day that is worthy to be called... “the Lord's day.” For if there was no resurrection, we would all yet be in our sins according to Paul in 1 Corinthians 15.

God bless

Isaiah 66:23 is not singling out the weekly Sabbath day alone. Notice carefully what it says.

“And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.” (Isaiah 66:23).

It says from one new moon to another and from one sabbath to another shall all flesh come to worship the LORD.

This means from one month to another month and from one week to another week they will worship the LORD. It is giving a timeframe of many days here and not just the Saturday Sabbath.

It's called a word study and by word studies (looking at the context to see how that word is used honestly without any bias or outside preconceived belief), we can gain an understanding of what that word is trying to tell us overall.

It is true Sabbath happens each week but from "one Sabbath to another" had a very specific meaning to Isaiah and his readers - and it did not mean "every Tuesday" or "every week-day3"

God bless
Thanks for telling me your view on that.

Let me know if you want to talk about worshiping in spirit and truth.

Peace be with you!

After looking at the verse again a few times, I can agree with the interpretation that it could be referring to worshiping on the Saturday Sabbath the day in the New Earth but again, we are not living at that point in time yet. Do you believe you are commanded to build an Ark like Noah? Also, nothing is said that it is a command, either. I am sure it is possible God will not have to give commands in the final New Earth (Whereby we could drop the ball and potentially sin). Sin will be no more in the New Earth. I think the saints will naturally just want to worship God. Nothing will hinder them in wanting to worship God, as well. They have already proven themselves in being faithful in this life. Plus, I imagine worshiping God in the New Earth will be an amazing rush like we cannot imagine, and so it would be like the best thing you can ever imagine X 100. People will just be drawn to naturally worship God. Think of your favorite food that makes your brain and taste buds explode. For me: It was the first time I had Brazilian coxinha. The other close time was when I had Texas brisket. However, I imagine that it most likely will not compare to the experience of worshiping God on the New Earth.

The Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. Genesis 2. Long before Moses. Yahweh made it Holy. Who are you to take what He made Holy and profane it by making it common?

I believe the Saturday Sabbath still exists as a calendar day and that one can worship on that day, but under this current dispensation of the New Covenant, we are not currently commanded to keep the Saturday Sabbath (See: Colossians 2:14-17, Romans 14:5, Acts of the Apostles 13:39, Galatians 5:4, Acts of the Apostles 15:1, Acts of the Apostles 15:5, and Acts of the Apostles 15:24). Sure, weekly Sabbath worship will most definitely will resume for all believers in Isaiah 66:23 on the New Earth, but I don’t believe we are living in that time period yet. Paul says, “One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.” (Romans 14:5).

The Lord's Day is Sunday:

Revelation 1:10 mentions the “Lord's day.”

“I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, ...” (Revelation 1:10).

Some believe this day to be Sunday, and others believe this day to be Saturday (i.e. the Saturday Sabbath, or the seventh day [last day] of the week). Let's examine Scripture to find out what the Lord's day is.

---------------------------------------------------------

Mary, Peter, and others witness the empty tomb:

The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.” (John 20:1).

6 “Then cometh Simon Peter... and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,
7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.” (John 20:6-7).

“...yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
(John 20:9).

10 “Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
11 But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping:” (John 20:10-11).

“Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener,...” (John 20:15).

16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.

Here we see on “the first day” of the week (Sunday) that Jesus was already risen, and He shows Himself to Mary and tells her, “I ascend (rise) unto my Father.” Mary later tells the disciples that she has seen “the Lord.”

This is the Lord's day in that He had ascended or risen to the Father.

-------------------------------------------------

On the Road to Emmaus:

Jesus (with his identity hidden) talked with two men on the road to Emmaus about His death and resurrection:

The two men said:

“Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre; And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.” (Luke 24:22-23).

Jesus said unto them:

“O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? (Luke 24:25-26).

Later, after Jesus revealed his full identity to them (in who He was) at dinner and departed:

The two men said:

32 “And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
33 And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,
34 Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.
35 And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.” (Luke 24:32-35).

The Lord is risen indeed!
Jesus ascended or had risen to His Father!
This was on the first day the disciples discovered the empty tomb!
This is the Lord's day. The culmination or climactic high point of God's story in the salvation of mankind. He is risen! The Lord is risen! The Lord is risen indeed! The first day of the week! The Lord's day! Sunday!

For Christians would be known for gathering on Sunday or the first day of the week (Which is based on Scripture).

Yay!

Thank you for the like on my OP and for the kind reply, but I actually find religious artworks of my Lord to be offensive. I see them as false idols. For nobody can capture what the Lord Jesus actually looked like. Hope you understand. Before I did not have a problem with them until recent years. In other words, it’s like somebody drawing a picture of your parents that you love dearly and yet it looks nothing like them.

Good post, I am not sure why people do not get that God made the Sabbath for all mankind *Mark 2:27-28 that Jesus is the Lord of and it is an everlasting covenant *Exodus 31:16 that will be continued to be kept in the new earth *Isaiah 66:22-23 and it is one of Gods' 10 commandments that give us the knowledge of what sin is when broken according to Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4 and if we break anyone of them we stand guilty before God of sin in James 2:10-11. Of course this includes Gods' 4th commandment that is one of God's 10 commandments that give us the knowledge of what sin is when broken (Romans 3:20)

God bless
