Jane Austen's novels are quite satirical. She continually pokes fun at the social structures and conventions of the day, and the way people behave. If you haven't read the original books, then they're worth a read.

Yes, and I'd guess that Jane Austen had encountered someone like that in real life, as like many authors, she probably drew from real life to get inspiration for her characters. Having five girls to marry was probably considered plenty enough to give a mother a severe case of 'nerves'.

I have been thinking long time about this new religion which is government. Each day I see more and more people thinking government is in higher position than God. When lockdowns begun I was baffled how only few pastors were actually trying to keep up with so called old normal and continue worshipping God normally and keep church open. But this convinced me that narrow road is really narrow...

Surgery went well. I am back at home after an overnight in the hospital. I have a grody incision down the right side of my neck. Stiff, sore. Hurts to swallow. It's going to be a long road to recovery.

Hmm...hoping for a fast recovery with no complications...
