Well I have been playing the City of Heroes revival game for a 1.5+ years. That was one of those online games that years ago required a subscription, before free to play games became the norm, and went free to play as well.

A great game if you like the Super Hero / Super Villain genre. It was taken offline in late 2012, but came back in 2018 in secret, and 2019 for most folks.

Lots and lots of content that is free. Lots of ways to make your own custom hero or villain tons of costume options, and lots of types of powers to choose from.

Spiderman 2018 is the best superhero game I've played. I really wish they hadn't changed the appearance of Peter Parker for the PS5 remaster. Also, I didn't do the DLC for that game. For some reason DLC content almost never manages to suck me in.

I wish Game Pass came to Switch or that Switch had its own version of it. What I mean by that is, maybe Mario and Zelda games would be excluded, as most people buy them anyways, but other Nintendo titles like Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, Yoshi's Crafted World, and so on would come with the service. Nintendo has a lot of good games that I think tons of people would enjoy but they are hesitant to pay a lot of money for.

As it is right now, these games are kind of collecting dust. They sell a few million but are underutilized.

I did initially but you can’t use mods (which the game does need) so I bought it on Epic. Mech warriors 5 Mercenaries: Heroes of the Inner Sphere.

Great fun!

Random thought: I always associate the Adventure of Link (NES) with making my first holy communion and beating the game with making my Confirmation.

I had a whole paper written out about how the original Zelda games could be seen as a Christian allegory, but I lost it when my previous laptop died and haven't bothered to re-write it yet.

I haven't played too much of the original Zelda games but that would have been cool to read. As you likely know, there is an image of Link praying to Jesus. The Christian elements could have been intentional.

In the two original games, he had a giant cross on his shield but I have never seen that picture before and that's extremely cool.

People try to explain away the Christian themes that the original LoZ had. One of the items you got in the first game was the Bible and in the second game, Adventure of Link, one of the items that link has to get is a cross in order to be able to see the Moa ghosts in the destroyed town. But the tombstones all had crosses on them, and there was Christian symbolism that was present in the series until Ocarina of Time where they brought in the triple goddesses. However I always thought that the triforce was supposed to be an allegory for the trinity in that Power=Father, Wisdom=Holy Spirit, and Courage=Son.

I see a screenshot of Devil World (which was never released in America), what book is that from? I might be interested in finding a copy of it.

I agree. Link praying to Jesus is one of my favorite gaming images and lesser known trivia info. Going by the fact that one of the items in the first game was the Bible (made your Wizzrobe wand spells turn into fire upon hitting an enemy or a wall) and the presence of the crosses on the tombstones, as well as Link's shield having a cross on it and coupled with one of the key items in the second game being the cross and the original Japanese hint being "Pray to God at three-eye rock", I definitely see that Christianity somehow influenced the original two games before Nintendo decided to put the "golden goddess" thing in in OOT.

Also in Link to the Past, there is a scene where to get into one of the beginning dungeons, Link gets down on his knees and prays.

The SNES library service comes with the twenty dollars a year online service. You are mainly paying to play Switch games online. That said, the library is still part of it and people are not happy. That dislike ratio is no joke. Sitting at currently 10K dislikes to 2.7 likes.

It might be less if Nintendo marketed it better. They don't hype up the games at all. Jelly Boy has never been released in most of the world. That info is not included in the video. Yet this isn't the only Switch online update with a majority of dislikes. The June update sits at 9.8K dislikes to 4.5k likes.

This same month, Japan is getting Shin Megami Tensei If. For the unfamiliar, SMT is the series that spawned Persona, so it has name recognition. Westerners would be happier if they at least got the same as Japan. I guess Nintendo didn't want to translate the game though. We also want EarthBound on Switch. People are clamoring for N64 games. I hope that Nintendo starts listening to fan feedback and gives people some of what they are asking for.

I didn't mind the Switch's retro library when I was living with someone who had one, but there's no point in my paying for it because I already have all of those games and more on an emulator. Perhaps if they put in N64 games it might be worth it, but they won't for whatever reason.

It would be smart if all consoles that Nintendo releases from here on out provided support for A-tier titles that were on previous console generations. They will never do this though because then they lose money on "remasters" and rebuilds.

The gaming industry has become ridiculously hypernormalized. I used to want to be a part of it when I was a kid, but I'm actually glad I never got plugged into it as a career because I see it as stifling creativity and being very disenchanting at the end of the day since video games are no longer trying to do anything groundbreaking, but trying to figure out how to sell the most copies and they've largely hit upon certain formulas that work and ones that don't, so truly unique titles haven't really been made for a while. I mean, Call of Duty puts out nothing more than an updated multiplayer engine every year and charges you $80 or whatever to play it. They don't even bother making campaign modes for their games anymore.

If there aren't plans for a remaster or remake of Diddy Kong Racing or Donkey Kong 64, let people play the originals. If not the most popular games, there has to be plenty of underrated gems. I checked and there is apparently an Ogre Battle 64 that has positive reviews.

One of my favorite games was WWF No Mercy because it had a fairly involved create-a-wrestler mode that I used to use a lot to create custom characters with custom movesets and whatnot. As far as any of the Rare games go, I doubt that we're going to be seeing re-releases of those. Nintendo and Rare had a falling out from what I understand (I could be wrong).

I have an N64 emulator and a copy of the ROM for Ogre Battle 64, but I haven't even tried to play it yet because the original Ogre Battle for SNES is very complicated and I cannot figure out how to even get the game to begin.

After the original black ops, I lost a lot of interest in the series because it was no longer set in the period of time that I like to study (Cold War) and soon after that, they dropped the campaign mode entirely and made is a strictly online multiplayer experience because it takes less effort and that's where the money is.

I haven't kept current with games for quite some time. I remember that the most recent console I had was the 3DS and I had a bunch of games for that, that I never even played so eventually I sold it and pretty much stuck to playing emulated NES and SNES games on my laptop.

Yeah it would have been cool if the Super Mario 64 DS Remaster/Remake had been included with Super Mario 3D All-Stars. I never tried it on DS so it would have been a fun. My friends would spend hours creating characters in No Mercy. I never got as into it but it was fun playing with them and seeing what they put together. Maybe the Ogre Battles being complicated are why we don't see ports more often. For some reason they never port Final Fantasy Tactics to consoles either.

I don't know if I played Cold War. That does seem to be a more entertaining period. COD was never my favorite series but it was decent enough when I gave it a chance.

There are still some pretty good games coming out depending on what you are into. But I get wanting to stick with what you know.

The thing is that I have neither the money nor the drive to follow new games anymore. I gave up on remaining current with consoles around the time of the Wii and New 3DS. It seems like every three to four years there is a new console that everyone has to camp out in line for at GameStop and I'm just not into that life anymore and never really was. I was one of the first people in town to get an N64 when it came out, but it took me a while before I got a gamecube and a PS2 and by that point I was already starting to lose interest in a lot of games because I noticed more and more games being released that weren't really as great as gaming magazines had hyped them up to be. Now it's even worse, the gaming press is nigh-insufferable and manage to shoehorn leftist politics into a subject where they don't really have any relevance, gaming; so I don't read any of the gaming press or keep up with what's coming out anymore.

I just play the same games I played as a kid. They don't get old, they're a good enough way for me waste some time and I know what I'm getting into. The other problem is that the graphics now make me nauseous and I can't explain why because I really don't know. If I spend time playing say Black Ops or MW3, after about twenty minutes I feel sick to my stomach and when I turn away from the screen, I still see movement in my field of vision as if I were moving through the arena. So I really can't play any new games anymore because most of them are first person or have super-realistic graphics now.

I stick with NES and SNES, maybe some Genesis and N64 now and then. Zelda, Castlevania, and Final Fantasy never get boring but I do wish that I could find a decent PlayStation emulator so that I could play Final Fantasy Tactics again, as that was one of my favorite games of all time.

I was gonna say, PS1 and PS2 had great game libraries. Tons of classic RPGs and everything else. Probably tough to find a good emulator for them though. Final Fantasy Tactics is one of the best FF games. I beat it again a couple years back and still loved it.

I don't know what it was, but it was a bummer because I used to like Left 4 Dead 2 and that was one of the ones that first started making me feel physically ill after I'd play it for about twenty minutes. I think it might have something to do with my psych meds because before I was diagnosed and on meds, it didn't happen but it definitely happens now if I try to play a game as far back as xbox 360. I can play stuff like Wolfenstein 3D and Ultimate Doom without any problems though.
