How do you define it? Why would you call yourself Charismatic? Do you view it as a denomination?

I thank God I've been baptized in Jesus' name and spoke in tongues when the Holy Ghost came. I was cured from a debilitating asthma attack by Jesus and spoke in tongues shortly thereafter.

I define "Charismatic" as believing that the spiritual gifts described in the New Testament are operating today among those of us who believe that they exist. It's not a denomination; it's a group of people that believe the Bible.

Charismatics believe the gifts (charisma) , fruit, and offices of the Spirit, such as prophesy, teaching, helps, healing, giving, mercy, et cetera, are still in operation among the faithful (see: Romans 12:6-8, 1 Corinthians 12:8-10, 1 Corinthians 12:28-30, Ephesians 4:11, 1 Peter 4:11).

No, it's not a denomination. Roman Catholics, for instance, believe the charisma are still in operation.

Personally, I can't understand how people who do not believe the charisma are still operating can themselves function effectively as Christians.

I'll answer my own questions:

How do you define Charismatic?
My definition may not be the proper one, nor the one most self-identifying Charismatics might prefer. I'd say Charismatic refers to one of two things: 1) a Christian within a specific denomination that accepts the validity of the spiritual gifts still operating for the edification of the Christian Church and for Christians themselves; and 2) a non-denominational Christian that believes in and perhaps practices the spiritual gifts of the Holy Ghost within their personal lives and doctrine.

Why would you call yourself Charismatic?
Technically, you could say I am charismatic in its simplest terms. I do believe in the spiritual gifts, the baptism with the Holy Ghost, and that these things are still essential and therefore useful in the modern-day Christian Church. I do not typically call myself Charismatic, however, because of the doctrine usually associated with it.

Do you view it as a denomination?
I view Charismatics as a movement. I do not know of any denominations that specifically label themselves charismatic. Charismatics are a body of Christians that are loosely tied together because of their unifying belief that the Holy Ghost and the gifts of the Spirit are still effective and operating in the modern Christian Church.

It is on the continuum between Baptists & Pentecostals, I see Charismatics as revering the Word like the former while availing themselves to the latter.

I believe the that it is Vineyard where they pair up teachers & prophets, for instance.

We have a growing charismatic ministry in the Catholic church. I am a Charismatic because i believe in the ministry of the Holy Spirit. His gifts, His fruits and His power
I met a self-identifying Charismatic Catholic at Ollie's one time. She was very friendly.

How do you see your belief differing from the general Catholic belief in the continuing ministry of the Holy Spirit?

Well, we are taught to believe in the Holy Trinity, regular Catholics believe in the continuing ministry of the Spirit

Charismatic or Continuist as is becoming a popular word to describe it, is simply one who believes that the sign gifts (tongues, prophecy and the like) are still in operation today as opposed to a Cessasionist, who believes that they stopped when John received his vision that culminated in the writing of the book of Revelation.

Most Christians originally used "charismatic" as an additive to what they already were. For example, a Baptist would still believe Baptist doctrine, but yet now they believe in the spiritual gifts, so they're Charismatic Baptist now. That's what John Osteen was for years. The Lakewood Church was initiated as a Charismatic Baptist church. It's just a charismatic church now.

Without the additional denomination, a non-denom or similar was implied like Vineyard or Foursquare. Most AoGs that I have been to have a similar feel, though they are usually classified as "Pentecostal."

I'm not sure that most of those people are functioning effectively. What do we do that distinguishes us from the world, I mean that really shows us as different? Even the charismatics are far too influenced by cessationist teaching, and the resulting systemic unbelief, otherwise we would believe and set the world on fire.

The AG continues to reinstate that the initial evidence of the baptism with the Holy Ghost is speaking in other tongues, which is the Biblical experience.

According to google:
How do you explain charisma?
The word charisma refers to a rare trait found in certain human personalities usually including extreme charm and a "magnetic" quality of personality or appearance along with innate and powerfully sophisticated personal communicability and persuasiveness; in short, charisma is often used to describe a seemingly uncanny person.

But to me charisma is a heart thing ... if Jesus lives in your heart for real morning, noon and night then you can be a Baptist or a Catholic or the normal definition due to spiritual gifts is
Pentecostal

I have seen all three, but only in church and fellowship ... I have no way of knowing how they wake up or what they are going through (after all we aren't suppose to judge them anyway)

It is a blessing to serve the Lord knowing He is in you at all times in the rough times and in the good times.

I am charismatic, I speak in tongues, I serve Him with a whole heart, I believe even when it seems impossible (at least for me) I do have some faith problems believing for others to be healed, but that is normal.

To me.. that means (Not how you asked) being like it ..I want to say IS yet for some like it "was" in Jesus day. All the gifts.. all healing, you name it.. Charismatic.. I know what the world says about that word.

I will say this.. FAITH forums here .. where have all the people gone.. use to be so many. I say where yet.. I believe I know why. For me.. putting believers in their own group.. stay in your group. My first warning was .. very nice asking why I said what I did. Yet.. as always they already judged me.. told me why I did what I did. Deleted the post.. THEN asked me why? I said.. seems someone got offended to that all I can say is sorry.

See I didn't know where I answered that question about who Mary is. Was in a Catholic forum. So I was TOLD I was .. well it was not nice.. yet none of it was true. How its always been here. That was MANY years ago. Sorry.. I Just notice how many are missing now. The best place is where they ask for prayer..

So yeah.. Charismatic is to be like Christ.. TO ME...

I wouldn't know what to call myself anymore. :D But truthfully, it was in a Charismatic church that I was taught enough of the Holy Spirit to start me on a long journey of discovery. I would identify with the Charismatic movement, inasmuch as believing in the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, and His gifts. The only reason for leaving that specific church was the practice of fake miracles. I certainly am not saying this happens elsewhere though.

Many other movements think I'm totally crazy when talking about the Holy Spirit. It's like they believe in principle, but when faced with someone operating under the anointing of the Spirit that they wobble out of control. In one season, the Lord called me into workplace ministry. Since this is an impossible mission without the Spirit's gifts and inspiration, I was in need of constant guidance. Even here in my country, people could get into a lot of trouble talking to fellow employees about matters of personal belief. And in the US, much more so. Back then, I would be able to look at a person, and see the presence of the Holy Spirit radiating from their eyes. It was like being able to see in both the spiritual realm and the physical simultaneously. It also became possible to switch back and forth to help me be sure. That made it easy to approach them and gently steer the conversation to matters of faith. What was awesome was the ability to do a full day's work in about half an hour. The Spirit would show me visions to help me identify technical problems rapidly, in order to have the rest of the day free to minister to fellow believers. Once, we needed a new meeting room, and the thought came to me to find a meeting room we could reserve permanently, once a week. So, a sense of boldness came over me and He moved me to go to the top floor, to the CEO's office, and plainly ask his PA to reserve a meeting room for Christian gatherings. And the Spirit repeated "Choose Boabab". So, the PA asked me "Which meeting room?" My reply was "Baobab". So she says: "done. Reserved until the year 9999." Sometimes, I would plainly tell people what specific qualities of them God loves most, and they would always be astonished at the accuracy, and be filled with awe for God's glory.

Those gifts seem to have faded away after leaving the company. And it makes sense, they were service gifts, and now with this Covid thing, and working from home, it is not needed to have these anymore. It still makes me a bit sad, but the truth is that if another season like that ever comes up again, He would be ready to enable me with anything required. One gift that has remained, and even grew stronger over time is to hear Him, clear as daylight. His way of explaining things is truly out of this world. And the love, compassion and gentleness of His personality has a way of transforming one.

So, yes, I would love to see a clear definition of precisely what it means to be Charismatic.

Charisma is derived from the Greek word for "gift." English adopted the word charisma from it's biblical meaning. Biblically, charisma is a gift. A spiritual charisma is a gift from the Holy Spirit.
