Im look advice recently took a Krav Maga self defense lesson.
I was talking to my pastor about my lesson in self defense he told me that many east martial arts have a element of spiritualisme aggression and i need to be careful
i don´t wanna do anything against God and he´s will.
Before the talk i was happy for the training it was fun good exercises lean new things.
i be training for years in gyms (weight training) alone. It was good not to train alone.
what is your opinion and believe
I taught a Japanese martial art for nearly thirty years. The founder of the art was extremely "religious" and manifested abilities that were probably demonic. But there wasn't a hint of the religious in anything I was taught or did in the actual training in the martial art. Some teachers in the organization I was a part of got a little...woo-woo New Agey, but such stuff wasn't ever necessary to the training. As a Christian, I completely ignored this eastern religious nonsense.
I think some basic tactics for self-defense and the defense of others you love and who are vulnerable is extremely valuable.
Krav Maga is entirely devoid of spiritual stuff. It is bare-bones, fight-for-your-life techniques that are aimed at simplicity and effectiveness, developed by Israelis and taught to their military. It is a very good self-defense choice.
The problem isn't, in Krav Maga, spiritual nonsense, but the character of the teacher. If you get a creep who is the teacher, he will attract creeps to his training hall and the training, and training culture, can become extremely unwholesome and even dangerous - especially for women. There is unavoidable physical contact - sometimes of a fairly intimate sort - in the application of fighting maneuvers and if there isn't an extremely high concern for respectful training, things can degenerate very seriously into behaviour bordering on the criminal.
The power dynamic in a martial art training circumstance is also ripe for abuse. If the teacher isn't a person of high integrity, humility and humor, if he is hyper-aggressive and temperamental, it is easy for training to become abusive, an exercise in teacher domination rather than in martial training.
DO NOT attend a training group that is brand new except if you have very high references for the teacher of the new group from well-established and respected teachers of the art. Lone wolves are often very dangerous, which is why they are lone wolves.
