  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What do you believe about January 6th?

Did Trump supporters violently take over the capitol on January 6th.

Funny please show where we supported, excused, etc etc etc the attack on the capitol.

Why on earth would I show you something I never claimed?

There can be no irony because that is what we are being accused of without any evidence of such. So yes that is the lefts problem. Twist what people say into something else. Present a false narrative. Someone says the capital attack wasn't as serious as made out to be and the left turns it into, encouraging, excusing and supporting the attack.

There can be plenty of irony because there is more then just as little bit of disinformation spread by the right. Remember when half the republican party claimed Obama was a Kenya born Muslim? How about the claims that Democrats were running a pedophile ring from a pizza parlor and one poor sap actually bought it and showed up with a gun? Claims of "crisis actors" when little kids were gunned down by a psychopath ring a bell?

The lefts problem. Please.

And this... ‘A Normal Tourist Visit’: House Republicans Use Hearing To Downplay Jan. 6 Capitol Siege—And Defend Rioters. I'd like to say I'm surprised by this blatant display of dishonesty, but I'm not.

Insurgents attacked the capitol and killed law enforcement in a failed attempt to overthrow our government. These insurgents had the support of sitting members of congress (Gosar & Biggs), who now disavow their connections and downplay their failed coup attempt.

Which makes her death a tragedy --albeit one of her own making.

#whenthelootingstartstheshootingstarts

Don't cheer the slogans if you don't expect them to be applied.

No idea what you're going on about. A criminal met a criminal's end. Unfortunate, but avoidable.

Because she wasn't innocent -- she was in the middle of committing a crime and was caught dead to rights (no pun intended).

What has she done to merit a public outcry? You can't claim "being innocent."
Now just for perspective consider for a moment how you might feel differently if she had been your daughter or sister.

How many would it take?
Well the best example was a news interview I saw some time back when the reporter asked a random person how many innocent black people are murdered by the police, the answer he received was a sincere "thousands"

In what way was it withheld?
Can you tell me the name of the officer? Can you describe the actions of the officer? Can you provide justification based on specific facts for the use of deadly force in this event? I as far as I know none of that information has been released. At minimum there would have been a use of force report and yet the public has no knowledge of any of the details of this event, as far as I have been able to determine.

If that is the definition, and we all acknowledge it, there is no controversy here. The event in question does not qualify as an insurrection.
Having an unsuccessful insurrection ≠ “no insurrection”.
Sorry, not sorry.

Oh, there are a lot more. It is sometimes difficult to keep track. it is to the point where people are afraid to call on the police for help in some areas, because they are likely to get themselves or someone else killed, often over something that doesn't require that level of intervention. Whole departments like Ferguson, that are so corrupt that virtually no one trusts the cops. My own town was so bad growing up, we watched the cops sell drugs to children and one of my coworkers had the cops try to plant drugs on him at 8 years old. it took over a decade before they were finally busted. Nearly half the force was fired at once.
Provide your evidence for the as you said "Oh, there are a lot more" name names provide convictions or evidence. The problem is there are people providing a false narrative that the police are intentionally murdering a huge number of black people, that is far from the truth.

You know if a white man had a baby that needed medicine and was crying and had a high fever and he couldn't get help and he desperately robbed a store and on the way out bumped into a 55 year old black woman the left would report the story as follows:
White supremist terrorizes a black grandmother while robbing a store to get drugs.
Making things up and then complaining about the “story” that you envisioned here, is fascinating and all but, this is all in your head.

Ah yes, keep moving the goalposts. now "name them all and convictions"

Hint: part of the reason people were protesting was due to a lack of convictions, even when the crimes were caught on camera.

But's let's see how many we can name off the top of my head and a quick google:

Daniel Shavier, Eric Garner, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Philando Castille, Dante Wright, Antiana Jefferson, Tony Timpa, Stephon Clark, Botham Jean, Alton Sterling, Freddie Gray, Tamir Rice, Mario Arenales Gonzalez, Stephen Dolceamore. This list goes on.

The list goes on because you have people on your list who are not innocent victims. You are buying into the con that hundreds or thousands of innocent black people are murdered by the police, now go through your list and take off all the ones where the officer was found to be justified in the use of deadly force, then show me how many you have left.

I already did that, you will notice Brown is not on there, there are several others that did not make the list because I felt they were questionable.

If my daughter or sister had been breaking and entering into a private residence, the homeowner would have been legally allowed to blow her away under castle doctrine.

That post did not do what you claim. The posters claim was that the incident is blown out of proportion. He did not excuse it, justify it, condone it or sympathize with it.

This is the lefts problem. They continue to spread disinformation. Someone makes a claim and you twist it to mean something else.

You failed to support your claim. And one posted pointed out the flaw in the poll. They did not take over the capitol. They failed in their attempt. They were repelled and even one of them got [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] for their efforts.

You are right and I am wrong.

Minimizing and denying are not the same as excusing, justifying, condoning or sympathizing. Some things simply cannot be excused, justified, condoned or sympathized. They can only be minimized or denied. To this day there are those who deny the holocaust or systemic racism, or anthropogenic climate change. We could make a list.

So you are right and I am wrong. No one here seems to be explicitly excusing, justifying, condoning or sympathizing. It seems the more acceptable strategy is to minimize or deny that anything significant even happened to begin with.

My bad.

Can you tell me the name of the officer?

No

Can you describe the actions of the officer?

Yes.

At the time, the USCP was evacuating Members from the Chamber, which the mob was trying to enter from multiple doorways. USCP officers used furniture to barricade a set of glass doors separating the hallway and Speaker’s Lobby to try and stop the mob from entering the Speaker’s Lobby and the Chamber, and three officers positioned themselves between the doors and the mob. Members of the mob attempted to break through the doors by striking them and breaking the glass with their hands, flagpoles, helmets, and other objects. Eventually, the three USCP officers positioned outside the doors were forced to evacuate. As members of the mob continued to strike the glass doors, Ms. Babbitt attempted to climb through one of the doors where glass was broken out. An officer inside the Speaker’s Lobby fired one round from his service pistol, striking Ms. Babbitt in the left shoulder, causing her to fall back from the doorway and onto the floor. A USCP emergency response team, which had begun making its way into the hallway to try and subdue the mob, administered aid to Ms. Babbitt, who was transported to Washington Hospital Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Can you provide justification based on specific facts for the use of deadly force in this event?
Yes. As you can see from the account above Ms. Babbitt was attempting to enter an area that was being barricaded to prevent entry from a violent mob.

I as far as I know none of that information has been released. At minimum there would have been a use of force report and yet the public has no knowledge of any of the details of this event, as far as I have been able to determine.

There is literally video of the event on social media.

I find it interesting that a 12 year old child playing with a toy gun is OK to gun down because the officer was "in fear for his life" and "had to make a split second decision" but a woman that is part of a violent mob breaking in to a restricted area of government is now some sort of innocent martyr.

Out of your list of sixteen we have FOUR legitimate incidents of abuse of the use of force by police. I wasted my time doing researcher you should have done. Stop believing in a false narrative that is being pushed by people who are only trying to benefit themselves, if they were truly interested in saving black lives they would do something about black on black murders.

Daniel Shavier, On December 7, 2017, after a six-week trial, a jury acquitted Brailsford of all charges

Eric Garner No charges on officers

George Floyd, convicted

Breonna Taylor None of the officers involved in the raid have been charged in Taylor's death.

, Philando Castille, officer acquitted

Dante Wright Potter was charged by the Washington County Attorney's Office with second-degree manslaughter,

, Antiana Jefferson, Based on footage from Dean's body camera which captured the shooting, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Tony Timpa Criminal charges against three officers were dropped in March 2019 and they returned to active duty.[25]

, Stephon Clark, On March 2, 2019, the Sacramento County district attorney announced that the Sacramento police officers who killed Clark would not be charged

Botham Jean, Over a year later, on October 1, 2019, Guyger was found guilty of murder.[6

Alton Sterling, The Department of Justice investigated but in May 2017 decided that it would not file criminal charges against the police officers.

Freddie Gray officers found not guilty

, Tamir Rice, pointed (toy) gun at police

Mario Arenales Gonzalez resisted arrest

, Stephen Dolceamore. White man who resisted arrest

False equivalency is dishonest.
Nothing wrong with honest comparison, equal actions should result in equal consequences. That is just being fair minded, nothing more, nothing less.
