I will let the courts decide what is and isn't. I've seen examples of those on the left that threatened to kill Trump that were ignored totally, Biden threatened to "beat him up" and was given a pass. It is very likely these people may not have really harmed Pence at all even if they caught him they may have just tied him up and made a show of things. I would say if they were truly after Pence they would have brought their game, major weapons to take out his protection. If they were not heavily armed.. or armed at all then the courts may consider the situation just free speech.

Free speech does not cover threatening someone directly like that. There are plenty of grey areas, but when you have actual gallows behind you, are breaking into the building the person is in at the moment, and chanting to hang them, that's not going to be covered, that's criminal threats.

Of course, but it clearly is also far away from the Capitol building. It is very wrong to try to associate the many people who showed up to hear the President's speech with the other and much smaller group that moved against the Capitol even before the speech was over.

BTW I looked again at the picture of the "gallows", and you can't hang anyone with that design it would fall apart the minute you put 100 lbs on it. It is not supported properly looks like it may be made from 2x4s but if 4x4s the additional weight would make it more unstable on top. In other words it isn't a working gallows but rather a PROP.

This is a matter of defending the right of Congress to peacefully carry out their Constitutional duties. It has nothing to do with "left" or "right".

I don't care what you think BLM or any other group did.

These individuals, and the leaders who supported them...(and those who downplay their actions) will be held accountable.

I don't care what you think they did on Jan 6 either and I basically think we diminish the value of the black lives killed by BLM over the politicians in Washington who were not even injured at all. The general thinking shortly after the event was that this was a group of people representing different motives, but that the basic intent was to confront Congresspeople and the Vice President and try to convince them to hold up on certifying the election results.

HOWEVER, we soon were being told by people by in and out of Congress that it was something else. Then, it became overthrow the government, kill or injure Congressmen and women, and even destroy the building! One Congresswoman said she was scared for her life as it was unfolding and barely escaped death (although she wasn't there at the time).

But the assault charge would stick. There are people in prison who threatened others with toy guns. I know a guy who got three years in prison for that.
