well, tomorrow im gonna call a preacher up the street from me and talk to him about getting saved. i have tried everything i can find to do from the internet, and so far nothing has worked. for almost 2 yrs i have struggled with this salvation thing, and i just hope he can fix me. but i do have some doubt... when everyone says the same thjing to me online about how to get saved, i have to assume he'll tell me the same thing too and i'll be right back where i began....unsaved.

Nothing beats face to face. I've been able to share things online that I might not have IRL because there's a fair degree of anonymity but when it really comes down to it, sitting down with someone can sort out all sorts of things. Maybe even what it means to be saved.

Didn't you say that you were struggling with OCD?

If so, talk to someone at one of these churches (near you) about getting saved,
The Church & Mental Illness...

Tell them that you are struggling with OCD, too.

Beware of looking for quick fixes.

By all means talk to the man. Make a friend, get some council, but don't place the burden of fixing yourself on him.

i dont think i would, but at the same time, i dont have the answers so im hoping he has something useful for me. If he doesnt, should i just start visiting random preachers till i find one who does have the answer??

That won't placate your OCD. You need to attack it from all sides.

This is the third time I've tried to post only to have my words disappear! So I will shorten my answer and divide it into multiple posts.

The Bible has your answers.

The more you read what God says you should gain understanding. You can't give yourself the new birth. That is God's doing.

1 Corinthians 3 NIV
1Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly—mere infants in Christ. 2I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. 3You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans? 4For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not mere human beings?

5What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task. 6I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. 7So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. 8The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. 9For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building...

18Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become “fools” so that you may become wise. 19For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness”; 20and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.” 21So then, no more boasting about human leaders! All things are yours, 22whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, 23and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God.

part two:

When God gives you the new birth via the Holy Spirit, He is beginning a work in you and He will bring that work to completion.

He wants you to keep reading your Bible and to strive to obey Him:

John 14 NIV
23Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.

1 John 1 NIV
5This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin...

8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

We don't suddenly become perfect. We are being conformed to the image of Christ.

Why are you going to call the preacher from up the street?

Why not talk to the monster of the church you attend every week?

If Christianity interests you, one of the first things you start doing is attending the same church every week.

Another possible action would be to join a Christianity Explored course. You can find out about this and churches doing it from the web site of the same name.

never worry about communion just yet, get your heart and soul right with Christ first and foremost. If you read 1 Corinthians 11:18-34 you'll know not to rush into communion before the Lord has chastened you and the Holy Spirit has helped examine what's wrong in your life.

A preacher can help lead you/direct you to Christ, he can't save you. If your serious, get on the phone to one or better still...get on the phone to Christ through prayer and supplication. i pray and hope the Holy Spirit keeps on convicting you of your sin til you give in and accept Christ into your heart, life, mind with true sincerity. If that conviction brings you to tears, drives you to your knees and makes you repent and accept Christ as Master and ruler over your life, let him in and surrender all. God Bless.

That is why you don't feel empowered as a Christian.
One of the gifts of the Spirit is exhortation.
These encourage us to continue in our faith.
Think of them as supernatural

But he at least can follow-up with your ideas and doubts and answer questions as they arise. So can inquirers' classes in any church that offers such a course of study.

We here on CF try to help, but there is a limit to how much we can do. It's mainly confined to basic suggestions, and we do not really get into more detailed or involved counseling. And with different people giving different answers, it can be confusing to anybody.

So, good luck, and congratulations on you deciding to take this step.

It depends because maybe they will have beneficial answers, sometimes the answer we need is not the one that we want to hear.

By all means cast a wide net and bring your queries to a lot of people, but I think the best spiritual council comes from someone whom we have an established relationship with, someone who knows us deeply. Asking 100 different preachers how to get saved will give you a 100 stock answers, if you want tailored advice start going to a Church and get to know the priest or pastor, and then develop a relationship with them. Asking many strangers for advice isn't going to be that much better than Google.

This is a big problem if you ask me. The Church is the body of Christ. Nothing good can come from turning your back on it. Find a Church and go talk to the priest or pastor or whoever, you are not going to find salvation outside of it off your own back by following your own self will

By all means, go to see the preacher you speak of...maybe he'll open your heart doors to receiving Christ into your heart. The preacher, the online chats, your friends, and everyone can only give you their perspective (God's perspective), it is you in the end who choses to follow Christ or not to follow Christ. It is an act of submitting your life (your convictions, your opinions, your preconceived notions) and following the unseen (Jesus teaching) and leaving behind the seen (the world desires). Sounds daunting, it's a life long endeavor, and your heart's conviction, only you and God knows. Just going through the motions over time will get you nowhere.
Yes, get clarification from your preacher friend...let your doors open and stop over thinking it :)
