Not to be a Judaizer, but I do wish that Baptists at least would go back to Saturday worship, just because Sunday was something instigated by the Roman Catholic Church, and it's kinda like.. even though we're not Catholic, we're obeying a Catholic doctrine that they invented themselves. I don't like the idea of obeying the Pope at all.

The Eastern Orthodox Church would disagree that Sunday worship was invented by the Roman Catholic Church. Worship on Sunday goes back to the beginning.

We're not obeying a Catholic doctrine. We're obeying the Lord, who told us through Scripture that we shouldn't forsake assembling together, that only those weak in faith are worried about special holy days, and to let no one judge us in regard to a sabbath.

If I recall correctly, both Saturday and Sunday were considered days of worship in the beginning, at least by the Jewish Christians. I do not know if Gentile Christians that were never Jews ever bothered to observe Saturday as the Sabbath.

I find the Sunday morning routine to be anything but restful. I now have a kid, so once things open back up, that's going to be another layer of hassle. I don't like corporate singing and I rarely get anything out of sermons, so the service does nothing for me. Partly because of this, I usually volunteer, so I can at least stay busy while I'm there.

I'd rather do church on a weekday evening and have another weekend day free to sleep in, drink coffee, and putter around the house. Why is the day of rest so aggravating?

I thought for sure this was going to be about bad preaching and worse singing, lol. That might make me not like Sunday worship.

Did Baptists ever worship on Saturday? Maybe I misunderstood. Besides, I think Christians were observing the Lord's Day as worship before there was an actual Pope, but I'm up for correction on that.

The Jewish Sabbath was not always on Saturday, either. If you want to go back to the original Sabbath, then you need to learn something about lunar calendars. Otherwise, you're forsaking the body of Christ for a body of unbelieving Jews. Whether the Catholic, or some other church, instigated Sunday worship, it was still started by the church. The Jews currently worship on a day not ordained by God in the beginning.

It's less about the Sabbath and more about.. just not wanting to be under a Catholic doctrine. I've heard that it was Emperor Constantine that decreed in 321 that Sunday was the day of rest (himself formerly being a Pagan that practiced sunday worship of Pagan gods), and later the Catholic Church formalized it as their day of worship.

So to me, it's.. a pagan practice that has been adopted by the Catholic Church and now we're still practicing it despite not being Catholic.

From the Convert's Catechism of Catholic Doctrine
Question: Which is the Sabbath day?
Answer: Saturday is the Sabbath day.

Question: Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?
Answer: We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church, in the Council of Laodicea, (336 A.D.) transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday.

Question: Why did the Catholic Church substitute Sunday for Saturday?
Answer: The Church substituted Sunday for Saturday, because Christ rose from the dead on [Easter] Sunday, and the Holy Ghost descended upon the Apostles on a [Pentecost] Sunday.

Question: By what authority did the Church substitute Sunday for Saturday?
Answer: The Church substituted Sunday for Saturday by the plenitude of that divine power which Jesus Christ bestowed upon Her!

Like.. we're gonna seaprate from popery, and then ... still follow doctrines that were done by papal decree?

What I don't like is it's like church doesn't exist outside of a couple of hours one day week. Shouldn't we want to worship and fellowship more often than that? I remember a time when most evenings there was a service, a bible study and a home group I could attend.

99% of what goes on Sunday was made up by the early “Christians” in an effort to make people feel comfortable(and that’s the nicest reason of all).

All done under the guise of pulling one passage here and there to make their point of what they wanted to do.

So I do believe your right in how you feel(even if you don’t fully understand why you feel that way).

Thing is, going to a Saturday ‘worship’ wouldn’t be any different. The same things would happen, just a different day. Pharisees did the same thing to the Sabbath as what happened when Sunday was instituted.

I disregard it all personally. I often think about what it was like for Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He was their God and referred to as such.

I do fellowship at a local Baptist church. It’s local, and my friends and neighbors go there also. I don’t go because I feel it’s right, I go because of the people there.

I figure Jesus went to the synagogue and sat with the very people who wanted to kill Him. At least the people where I meet don’t want to kill me...that I know of. :)

Yeah, it's less about wanting to go to any specific day of worship since I mean eventually that'll be every day anyway. More about wanting to separate from leftover clinging doctrines from the RCC. Just over the course of over 1000 years they picked up a lot of paganism along the way and I'd like to be free of that. Putting Christian names over Pagan practices or images does not work for me.

Don't consider it to have ever been obedience. Church meetings are a day to celebrate Jesus. It has never been about observing a sabbath. Jesus is the Sabbath now.
Romans 14:5
One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.

Colossians 2:16
Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath.

to a degree yeah, but at the same time Catholics have used the fact that protestants observe Sunday worship as a "see look, they still recognize the one true holy Apostolic Catholic Church and the Vicar of Christ his holiness the Pope! They still submit to his authority by worshiping on Sunday!"

No mention of sabbaths or Sabbath in that verse.
Do not insert what is not.

Sabbath in this verse is plural not singular. It is of the Law of Moses not the Ten Commandments.

I lived in Appalachia for some time about 15 years ago and there were a few regional Baptist associations that did meet primarily on Saturdays. They also had a rather unusual system of rotating where the meetings would take place. I think this was due to having more little churches than preachers so the preachers would form a circuit and establish a visitation schedule. Many of these churches still employed the 'caller' to direct the music ministry. A very different Baptist culture from the folks that get TV slots.

Roughly around 150AD Justin Martyr, in his First Apology, wrote that Christians were meeting on Sunday:

And on the day called Sunday, all who live in cities or in the country gather together to one place, and the memoirs of the apostles or the writings of the prophets are read, as long as time permits; then, when the reader has ceased, the president verbally instructs, and exhorts to the imitation of these good things.
...
But Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day on which God, having wrought a change in the darkness and matter, made the world; and Jesus Christ our Savior on the same day rose from the dead.

For He was crucified on the day before that of Saturn (Saturday); and on the day after that of Saturn, which is the day of the Sun, having appeared to His apostles and disciples, He taught them these things, which we have submitted to you also for your consideration.
