  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yeah and now these thugs steal someones means of transportation because they are starving to death. Right?
Nope. They steal it for a variety of reasons. None of which are worth escalating to a pitched gun battle in the streets. You strike me as someone whom is actually interested in self defense and would take classes to that effect. Have you ever taken a class were they treat self defense as anything less then deadly serious? Every one that I have ever attended (All two of them for guns I admit) have stressed that you should only bring a weapon into play when you feel all other options are exhausted.

I should hope so. But as I said to another poster, these ideas are a lot of what the left wants. I actually liked the bill having all of that in it. It lays it all out for us what the left actually thinks is a good plan. But having it languish also shows they know they can't do it all at once. They will just try and get it piece by piece cause you know, comment sense gun laws. A little at a time.
A single representative introduced this bill, got no co-sponsors and there ahs been no action taken on it since it was sent to committee. What part of that says to you that this bill is representative of "the left"?

Nor am I going to. This is :

A) Not a bill that is going anywhere
B) Not something I'm gong to waste my time combing through.

If there are particular measures you would like to discuss bring them up and I am happy to give my views on them.

I'm not surprised. You kicked the whole "left" idea making it sound like the proposals in the law had nothing to do with the left. You mocked the idea that the left would support such things.

And now you refuse to acknowledge that you would support such things.

So yes unless you can prove otherwise, these ideas are supported by the left and supported by you.

You cant read?

It's you assertion. Provide the link to the paper that refutes the facts. A look at the papers, show that none of them refute the other link. None that I saw. Which one refutes the other link?

Your assertion says they do. They don't, unless you can provide the link to the one that does.

Do you not read the posts on this thread in support of the ideas in the law?

Which proposals in the law do you support? Which ones dont you support? And why?

I'm well versed in self defense and the use of deadly force.

Most states would not allow you to shoot someone trying to steal your car.

Here are the highlights of H.R. 127’s provisions:

It creates a national firearm registry that anyone – including every
level of law enforcement and the military – can access.
The registry would require one to tell the government exactly
where one’s firearms are stored.
The government knows who owns your car and where it is registered
One would need a license simply to own a firearm.
And that is a problem why?
Mandatory “psychological evaluations” are required receive this license.
Yes, those are fairly useless. I'd prefer a criminal background check since that would be a better indicator of someone's propensity for harming one's fellow humans.
One would need to pay $800 for “firearm insurance.”
Responsible citizens should pay for bad shooting. If I drive over my Trump-loving neighbor by accident, I would pay for his medical bills through automobile insurance.
It would enact extreme ammunition restrictions, including
a ban on magazines more than 10 rounds.
How many rounds do you need?

I stated my case.

Two sentences is a case? I asked you specifically which parts of the law you support and why. And which ones you don't and why.

You didn't mention anything in the law that you support not anything that you didn't.

You didn't say why you think the ideas you support are good and didn't say why the ideas you don't support are not good.

Two sentences really is nothing.

How many homicides are committed by mentally ill people?
What's the definition of mentally ill in this context? What kind of diagnoses would prevent someone from owning a gun?
Which types of guns were used in the majority of murders?
The topic of our convo was the intentions of "the government" in regards to gun control. I’m not seeing how your questions relate to that. But suicide obviously comes from mental illness and accounts for a large number of gun deaths.

I believe guns should be very heavily regulated and not readily available.

Well, if you say so. But that requires amending the Constitution. That's sorta extreme. But you do you if that's how you feel.
