  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The government isn’t trying and never has tried to ‘take your guns," however some people in government want to make certain guns illegal and make it harder for mentally ill people to get guns, to try and reduce the crazy number of gun deaths in our country.
Just saw (part of) an episode of Paternity Court with Lauren Lake. The defendant admitted to the Judge he had never really cared for the plaintiff, but had only ever simply said whatever he thought he needed to say, to get her to do what he desired. She fell for his lies over and over.

I see, data and facts dont matter to you.

Arguing by meme is pretty stupid btw.
I already posted data and facts from two different websites and the meme just further made a point.

So you just assume that the leaders you elected are lying to you? That’s called paranoia.

1) Guns actually. In 2019 about 37.8k people died from firearms related injury, while the same year about 36k died in car accidents.
2) Guns are designed to kill people. To the extent that they protect people, it's by virtue of being able to kill an attacker. I'm not saying that killing people is inherently bad, but that's what they are designed to do, and because of that they should be treated differently then something which might be dangerous, but has as it's intended function something else.

How many were homicides? How many of those homicides were committed by legal gun owners?

Is it going to be negotiated or just dropped completely?
Thus far it was written, failed to get any support and is languishing in a comity room gathering dust.

I should hope so. But as I said to another poster, these ideas are a lot of what the left wants. I actually liked the bill having all of that in it. It lays it all out for us what the left actually thinks is a good plan. But having it languish also shows they know they can't do it all at once. They will just try and get it piece by piece cause you know, comment sense gun laws. A little at a time.

Excellent! Thanks for the information. While my initial thoughts about people buying guns at a sporting goods store were incorrect, the remainder of my thoughts sound spot on.

The guns may be purchased legally, but then are sold or traded illegally. It appears the vast majority of the gun crime in Chicago is committed by people who are not the original owner.

Interesting read.

How many homicides are committed by mentally ill people?
What's the definition of mentally ill in this context? What kind of diagnoses would prevent someone from owning a gun?
Which types of guns were used in the majority of murders?

And you still didn't say which parts of that law you would support and which parts you would reject.

Nor am I going to. This is :

A) Not a bill that is going anywhere
B) Not something I'm gong to waste my time combing through.

If there are particular measures you would like to discuss bring them up and I am happy to give my views on them.
