  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

People don't do that. Bad guys don't drive to the nearest Dave's Sporting goods, load up on guns and ammo then drive to Chicago and sell them. Cause guess what, you have to register those legal guns They get the on the black market. Gun smugglers ananymous etc. It's the illegal guns the criminals get.
It's better to know than to guess.
https://www.chicago.gov/content/dam... Room/Press Releases/2017/October/GTR2017.pdf

It's the same old axiom and it's true. Good guys rarely commit crimes with guns. Bad guys usually commit crimes with illegal guns. Most of the murders in Chicago are committed by guns gained by illegal means.
All guns start out legally owned.

Take the suicides out, and then look at the numbers.

People in gun-restricted countries have no difficulty killing themselves when they want to.
I keep hearing that around 60% - 65% of gun deaths in America are caused by suicide (yet are counted as homicides, which really inflates the number of gun deaths in America and makes homicides by guns in America sound even worse) and around 80% of actual homicides are drug and gang related. Yet the solution is to create stricter gun laws that end up punishing law abiding gun owners in America?

For every assertion in your post.
Do you believe that percentage of deaths by suicide in the US are much lower, along with percentages of gun deaths related to drug and gang violence?

Why not remove belief from the equation and go to the stats that show the facts of the matter?

I've checked on the stats and several of them state that 6 out of 10 gun deaths in America are from suicide. Some state closer to just over 50%.

I also found this: Are gun homicides tied to gang violence?

But the reality is that gun homicides are overwhelmingly tied to gang violence. In fact, a staggering 80% of gun homicides are gang-related. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), gang homicides accounted for roughly 8,900 of 11,100 gun murders in both 2010 and 2011.

The Scope of the Problem: Gun Violence in the USA

For som real data and not some fluff piece.
I've read enough articles and statistics to know that the suicide rate and gang violence in relation to gun deaths in the US is a real problem and is not just fluff. Disarming law abiding citizens while criminals remain armed is not the solution to gun violence.

Then why would they need to take our guns?
The government isn’t trying and never has tried to ‘take your guns," however some people in government want to make certain guns illegal and make it harder for mentally ill people to get guns, to try and reduce the crazy number of gun deaths in our country.
