You say "God asked us to obey all His commandments, not nine, not eight"... But God gave 613 commandments. So if you're going to obey all of His commandments, you're going to have to obey all 613. Not 425, not 579, not 611, but all 613.

Zilch; there should be no controversy about this at all, but since the Millerite movement in the 19th century Adventists have embraced an unusual theology around diets. Read the history of Graham’s Crackers or J.W. Kellog for more details. Later, my understanding is much of this was doctrinally formalized by Ellen White. A friend of mine who grew up SDA with a Catholic mother was mistreated at Adventist elementary school because she would pack meat in his lunches, by one of the teachers, and this was recent, I reckon it would have been in the early 90s, I would guess 89-95 or thereabouts. His father had a change of religious perspective and joined the UCC, and his son became a liberal Christian of the sort that are frequently encountered in the UCC, which is how I met him, but he was a decent guy and my theological traditionalism did not preclude a friendship. He told me he is glad his father left when he did, because the Adventists have a system of boarding schools called “academies” for middle school aged children.

I'm pretty familiar with Ellen G. White and somewhat familiar with J.W. Kellogg. But I don't know about Graham’s Crackers, outside of the snack I had as a child.

So God changed his mind on this one? And Jesus was talking about eating with unwashed hands in your reference. Don't know that he actually declared all foods clean.

Ok, so you go and show the priest if you have a skin infection so he can tell if it is leprosy? Or for a stain in the wall so he can judge if the house needs to be burned down? Or maybe you avoid any contact with a menstruating woman? I am pretty sure you aren’t following those.

If there is no law why is satan enraged by those who keep His commandments. If the law was tossed out why would satan care?

Revelations 12:17 And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

If we are not under the law why is this verse one of the last verses in the Bible right before the second coming of Jesus?

Revelations:14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.

Seems like there is a promise for those who do keep His commandments. Perhaps there is a lot of misunderstandings about Gods laws? Do you really want to understand the truth or live the lifestyle you are more comfortable with?

I've seen a lot of focus by SDA members regarding the 10 commandments. But not eating pork isn't one of the 10. It's one of the 603 laws in addition to the 10. So I'm still wondering why it was decided that a few of the 603, such as Leviticus 11:7, should be kept, while most others are not kept?

It basically amounts to traditions within their denomination, some of which date back to Ellen White, whose writings appear to be regarded as infallible by some Adventists, and others of which date back to the Millerite movement in the early 19th century. Ellen White however had a critical role in shaping the modern SDA; much of what she did was good, such as insisting on belief in the Holy Trinity and stamping out Arianism, and other things preserved the cohesion of the community, for example, the doctrine of the “investigative judgment” which greatly eased the upset over The Great Disappointment.

I have come a little bit late to this thread, and haven't looked at all the replies, so apologies if this point is already made - But the moment of Peters Vision in Acts 10.where he has a vision of animals being lowered from heaven, and hears a voice from heaven say 'what God has made clean, do not call unclean' .... is the key moment where a Christian understanding of dietary laws supercedes the earlier laws. Peter has already been given a particular authority amongst the apostles by Jesus 'to bind and loose...... ' and in the early church these dietary changes as well as the Pauline pressure to change the requirements on circumcision were key to define how Christianity was not just a sect of Judaism. ...... So enjoy the Bratwurst with a clear conscience!!!!

Amen to that. Or a Lobster Roll. There is a place in town which makes astonishingly good Lobster Rolls and sells a tasty tropical beer to wash it down with. There’s also a Cajun place where I like to go with my congregants after church which has delicious gumbo and deep fried alligator.

This is correct. For example, Moses allowed divorce and remarriage, but our Lord regards it as sinful.
