I know I’m not being forced to participate on this forum and it was just an observation. There are areas of this forum where Christians can go to be lectured and belittled by only other Christians. No one is forcing you to read or participate in this specific forum.
Next they'll require you to have a psychiatric test and training before you can use your other gun to perform a God given right: The right to produce a baby.I do find a lot of these requirements unnecessary.
That is excessive. A registry that would need a court order to search would be better.
How much detail are they asking for here? Just the address? Or the exact safe in the basement? I don't think this is really needed.
A license with a corresponding test about firearm safety, storing firearms and ammo makes sense to me. Too many people don't learn how to handle or take care of a firearm. It would also help them learn the laws in their state.
I don't see how psychological evaluations would be done on such a scale in a timely manner.
I understand the idea behind this, but I don't think it should be mandatory. Stricter laws on 'accidental' gun discharges as well as holding the gun owner responsible for the gun (including reporting it if stolen, or if a kid gets a hold of it) could have the same effect without the insurance.
Not sure these work. It would be better just to keep track of people that buy large amounts of ammo and have the stores report it to the FBI.
40 years? This has no chance of passing.
I think you are trying to go down the slippery slope too quickly.Next they'll require you to have a psychiatric test and training before you can use your other gun to perform a God given right: The right to produce a baby.
i.e. this is WAY too proactive.
“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be "cured" against one's will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals.”

I like that "omnipotent moral busybodies." I'm surprised you can quote such a line without blushing.Next they'll require you to have a psychiatric test and training before you can use your other gun to perform a God given right: The right to produce a baby.

How's Chicago and New Orleans. I understand they have some pretty strict gun laws.I think you are trying to go down the slippery slope too quickly.
Look, we do need some sort of gun control. The country is not the wild west anymore, we don't call up the citizens to join the militia since we have a standing army now, and we don't lack in law enforcement. The need for an armed citizenry is almost gone, and it can be taken away if the armed citizenry doesn't start showing more restraint. I would rather have that come in the form of education and laws based on actions than the removal of guns.
But if you guys keep bucking any gun laws, don't be surprised when it gets clamped down after a large number of bad actors kill many people.
I am surprised it hasn't happened already.
As for a license to produce a baby, that is a topic for another thread.
I'm not the one trying to pass laws to micromanage people's lives.I like that "omnipotent moral busybodies." I'm surprised you can quote such a line without blushing.
Way to ignore what I was suggesting and go to the extreme case. How's Chicago and New Orleans. I understand they have some pretty strict gun laws.
I think if this gets serious elsewhere, we can try to reverse the second amendment. Until we do, this nonsense is really just a waste of time for everyone concerned. A more productive use of your time would be to jump off of buildings and use your mind to fly.
Regarding more gun laws, at the end of the day, we're faced with this:

In the case of Chicago there are surrounding communities whose laws are much less strict. There's nothing you can't buy without a background check in Indiana. How's Chicago and New Orleans. I understand they have some pretty strict gun laws.
Aww, don't rain on the outrage parade! How will the gun lobby go on without it?One Congressperson introduced a bill with no cosponser that was referred to a committee that has taken no action on it in a month. Yeah, I think we have nothing to worry about.
I'm not so much ignoring it as calling it irrelevant. Fact is, if you take away all the extremely violent cities in the US that already have strict gun control laws, guns are not really a problem in the US. In fact, they are used for self defense and, truth be told, normally don't even have to be discharged to do their job there. It's amazing what a criminal (who are usually cowards) will do when staring down the barrel of a gun of a citizen with the legal right to pull the trigger. Dead serious.Way to ignore what I was suggesting and go to the extreme case.
Again, you are forgetting that the nazi party had HUGE support in the population.
Had the ethnic minorities really staged an armed resistance of some kind, it would have been put down by the equally, if not more well armed and more numerous supporters of the government.
Also, nazi germany actually relaxed gun control to any non-suppressed parts of the population.
Tyranny is not "the government versus the population". Tyranny is always "the government and a significant part of the population versus the rest".
What are you driving at there? Are you suggesting people in Indiana should be more regulated because people in Illinois can get guns there? In the case of Chicago there are surrounding communities whose laws are much less strict. There's nothing you can't buy without a background check in Indiana.
The problem here is that the citizens who represent the most serious ideological threat to a free government tend to be those who have the guns.Purportedly, quite similar to our current anti-gun US administration.
We'll never know, because they were disarmed first. Easier to murder an unarmed citizen than to face one who is armed.
Yes, once Hitler's control was solidified, and by "non-suppressed" parts you mean those who were supporters of the Nazi party.
Plenty instances in history where the controlling rule did not have popular support and still committed human rights violations.
Point is, history proves that which follows disarming a population is never in their best interests or for their good.
You're mistaken that criminals are cowards, they tend to be desperate people. Please get desperate enough, a gun is not a deterant. If you want to have no gun control? Start dealing with all the issues that are pushing people to crime.I'm not so much ignoring it as calling it irrelevant. The problem is not guns. It is the people that use them illegally. And gun laws will have little, if any impact on them.
No, just pointing out that the "Gun laws don't work--just look at Chicago" argument is ridiculous. What are you driving at there? Are you suggesting people in Indiana should be more regulated because people in Illinois can get guns there?
Oh please, an act of war. Do you really think they'll start attacking military bases with their couch commando outfit and semiautomatic AR-15s?
In all seriousness, I recommend reading up on the criminal mind in the US. And the actual outcome of victims pointing a loaded weapon at a perp caught in the act. You're mistaken that criminals are cowards, they tend to be desperate people. Please get desperate enough, a gun is not a deterrent. If you want to have no gun control? Start dealing with all the issues that are pushing people to crime.
Is that some secret code or something? I have no idea what you are talking about. They couldn't even do that when their movement was taken over by Chinese Communist spy that overthrew the rightful president according to many of them.
