In this case they simply don't trust some soldiers, and they are entirely correct to worry.

If they're entirely correct to worry, that only augments my point about the government's vulnerability.

Sure, we could sugar coat the whole thing, but if a large portion of the public believe conspiracy theories about a stolen election that delegitimizes the president and won't be talked out of it no matter what, then we have to simply start evaluating them as a security risk.

12 out of 25,000 isn't that much. They were removed for inappropriate comments they made about the incoming president that they are supposed to be guarding.

It isn't about the number. Even if it was zero, that the government finds in necessary to politically vet its soldiers in this manner betrays a weakness that it is increasingly unable to conceal. It that way the storming of the Capitol fulfilled its purpose...

I'm sorry you are afraid but it is nothing to do with me. I, and most of the left, do not hold these views you try to assign to us.
Somebody holds such views.
If it’s not “my side” then it must be the “other side”.
Nuance has died.

Let's turn that on its head: Who can honestly say people with links to the far left are stable: what with all the insurrectionism enthusiasm they seem to have......think blm and antifa....
Protests are not Insurrection. Storming the Capitol trying to gain access to the VPOTUS while simultaneously being let in by corrupt officials as they yell ‘hang Pence’ is insurrection.

I’m surprised you can’t tell the difference, quite frankly: you’re not one of those conspiracy types who think Mr Trump won, are you?

That is the Secret Service's job not the National Guard's job.
If it isn't their job, then no one should be complaining about them being removed from a job they're not doing in the first place.

Come on, can we at least get some consistent excuses?

There is too little information in this story to allow any of us to form an opinion. It's just political noise. Something happened. It is just worded in a way, and supplying partial information - and that breeds a discussion born of incomplete info so people hold to their personal inferences.

The worst kind of news reporting is the kind that begs more questions than it answers.

What was it....2000? were sworn in as Federal Marshals?.....doesn't sound like a 'different task' to me.

Context is everything. I was explaining that they will have different task than the Secret Service has.

Where di you get the idea I was making any excuses. I was clarifying for another poster who actually has the job of protecting the President. What exactly did you imagine I was making an excuse for?

The Pentagon applies the Pentagon's standards.

"As is normal for military support to large security events, the Department will vet National Guardsmen who are in Washington, DC. While we have no intelligence indicating an insider threat, we are leaving no stone unturned in securing the capital," [Trump's Acting Defense Secretary] Miller wrote. "This type of vetting often takes place by law enforcement for significant security events. However, in this case the scope of military participation is unique."

They performed the same vetting procedures 4 years ago.

Like certifying state elections, or counting electoral votes, some people are going bananas about ordinary procedures.
He undercut his own statement.

So what next?......Hitler/Stalin type purges of the military? You want the military to not trust the civilian leadership just continue down this same path.

Yes Federal Marshals have a different job than Secret Service. FM's are LEo's with the power to detain, arrest and use deadly force against civilians. By swearing in NG soldiers you are empowering them with the same authority......an authority which is not something they should have.

I wouldn't think this should be all that surprising.

In any group of people, you can find the fringes. If I were to take 10,000 Ford Mustang enthusiasts, I'm sure I could find 12 that held some form of concerning beliefs or conspiracy theories.

I don't think a group happening to be one with a connection to the military changes that dynamic.

They haven't mentioned exactly what the content or point of concern exactly was (could've been Q-anon garbage, all the way down to something as trivial as someone posting a meme critical of Biden or something of that nature).

Even if it was something deeply concerning or along the lines of conspiracy theories. 12 conspiracy theorists among a group of 10,000 guardsman concerns me a lot less than the 12 conspiracy theorists out of 100 senators that are still currently holding office.

But the question is, why would you look for that in first place?

They didn't even have 25,000 troops in Washington four years ago...

There were thousands, however.

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump's Inauguration Day was marred by noisy demonstrations, shoving matches and sporadic clashes with cops that resulted in more than 200 arrests.

Three-thousand members of local, state and federal law enforcement — backed by 5,000 National Guard members and police officers from as far away as New Jersey — patrolled the streets as the evening's festivities got under way and the legions of protesters still seething over the Manhattan mogul's unexpected victory threatened more disruptions.
