Are we going to war with Iran?

I was talking about boris.

You think we installed Yeltsin into power?
I'd love to hear the explanation for that one...

I picked a left leaning site. Plenty of others out there with the same story. I remember back when it happened.

The U.S. Needs to Face Up to Its Long History of Election Meddling

Very interesting...

From your article:

These principles, when followed, distinguish America’s recent behavior from Russia’s. There is a moral difference between open interventions and secret ones. If a government publicly urges another country’s citizens to elect a particular candidate, then those citizens can judge for themselves whether the intervening country has their best interests at heart. That’s why Russia’s attacks on Hillary Clinton via the English-language television station RT—which it openly funds—were less worrying than its clandestine social-media campaign, let alone its alleged hacking and disclosure of Democratic Party emails.

But getting back to Iran... would you say that what we did to Iran is politically or morally equivalent to what we did with Russia?

We bribed Iran with a helicopter full of money. That's above and beyond what anyone else has done. We look weak to them and it will end up costing us in the long run.

We look weak because we paid our debts?

Did we look "weak" to them when we overthrew their legally and fairly elected democratic government and replaced it with a dictatorship?

We owed them the money.
The cash payment authorized by Obama is one of the most disgraceful and shameful “negotiations” in the history of our nation. It was a payment the Obama White House first denied, then ignored and then grudgingly acknowledged.

Funny thing. That article is from 2014. They couldn’t even imagine the disaster Trump would be to US.

Same with China. Sure Trump can do short term damage to them but inside they are rejoicing when US institutions and legitimacy of the government goes down the drain while country is divided ever further by a narcissistic clinging to his last shred of power while conspiracy theorists and cranks pour fuel to the flames.

Economies recover faster than trust.

Under Trump the USA is seen as less weak, but more untrustworthy, thanks to the US government pulling unilaterally out of a number of agreements with other countries. Thanks to that, other countries are far less likely to trust the USA with future agreements, even under another president, because one never knows what contracts your next resident of the white house will rip up.

Personally, I'm against any contract with the USA that lasts longer than the current presidential term.

Guess that depends on your viewpoint. Some see tearing up an agreement as strong while some argue that not having enough diplomatic power the enforce any new resolution looks decidedly weak indeed.

And despite Trump’s usual bluster his achievements with Iran and North Korea are abysmal.

Iran has multiplied it’s storage of weapon grade plutonium while being forced to closer economic ties with China while nothing has changed in North Korea apart from them having laughs with Trump’s love letters and getting greater international recognition.
