The information about Covid has been spotty and inconsistent from the start of the pandemic. I don't blame people for being skeptical, or feeling like they don't know who to trust, or what information is accurate and what isn't.

And no, I'm not a Covid denier.

Given how fast COVID took off that's hardly surprising. However things have long since settled down, information is pretty consistent now, and the actions required to slow the rate of spread are well documented.

What is bizarre is how some people still cling to the "it's just the flu" narrative, or outright refuse to believe it exists, simply because it suits their political world view.

No...it's not. It's far easier to shut down people crossing your borders when you're an island.

The only real exception here is S Korea and people crossing that border risk being shot.

Do you honestly think it's a coincidence that Taiwan, New Zealand, and Australia all fared better?

Again, red herring. There is a lot more to their responses than simple border closures and being geographically isolated.

Even though all of those countries are surrounded by water, they all still had infections within their populations. Yet they managed to avoid things spiraling out of control. Being an island had nothing to do with that.

Testing is an issue getting in the way of facts. Maybe they're doing great....maybe they're doing terrible.

And ironically enough, China.

I guess it depends on one's definition of "pretty consistent" or what sources people get their information from. I still see a lot of conflicting and inconsistent info.

I don't think it's too bizarre for people to refuse to believe it exists if they haven't had any firsthand encounters with it. It's unfortunate, but I can understand it.

Most of the conflicting and inconsistent info appears to be coming from politicians.

I'll tell you what....

I'll give you Vietnam. They seem to have done a lot of testing and they have handled it well. They used their military to strictly enforce a series of autocratic mandates to stop the virus.

I'm sure everyone posting here would fully support the same measures in the US.
