What?

Norway's tax rate is undoubtedly higher than the US, but they have a stronger public service/welfare system. A nationalised health care system, cheap (free?) public transport, cheaper education etc. I suspect they're much higher up when it comes to economic equality.

So if more people were employed there would be no need for higher taxes to pay for public services or handouts, would there?. This would enable more people to chase their dream of being able to do whatever they desire because they have the means to achieve/pay for it...

No it wasn't. Trump lost the popular vote. Neither had a mandate.

This election highlighted very real divisions between Americans.

Norway's employment rate is basically the same as America's. I have no idea what you're even getting at here.

People in Norway pay more in taxes, but pay less for healthcare and public services.

I never said it was just you. I said it's not everyone. Why is it so difficult for you to accept that not everyone has the same priorities and needs as you? It's not a threat or an insult towards you. I'm not saying that your desires are wrong or misguided. I'm only suggesting that you recognize the existence and the validity of other people's wants and priorities, the same way I'm recognizing yours.

And not that it's relevant to this conversation, but she received more votes. At least half a percent more, and climbing.

Because "conservative" and "liberal" are just labels of overlapping ideologies. However, there are particular issues that are relevant to the conditions in which people live, and the EC is not about labels of overlapping ideologies but the issues that are relevant to the conditions in which people live--and in all these years those issues have not changed appreciably between states that are primarily industrial and states that are primarily agricultural/raw resource providers.

Of course there are issues that may affect some states differently than others. But these are legislative matters that are the province of Congress. Interests of states are properly represented by their Senators and House members. The President's primary domestic job is to execute the laws made by the Congress. This job crosses state lines. He does have to sign off on those laws that Congress passes. And he must do this with fairness, good judgement, and impartiality. Pursuant to which, he should never show favoritism, or be beholden to certain states or regions. His constituency is the entire country, and he should be elected by the entire voting public.

Except Congress has handed much of that "handling" to the Executive Branch (particularly, agencies and commissions of the Executive Branch), which means Executive Branch activity needs as much of a balance between states and population as the Legislative branch does (with its two houses). This is more true now than it was when the EC was conceived.

If my fellow Missouri citizens and I were being slighted, or oppressed, or not getting our due, I'd go after our people in Congress. They're the ones on the front line who are supposed to look out for us. I don't see how anyone's interests are protected by disenfranchising voters.

You missed the point. EV defenders argue that entire states would be ignored in campaigning if it was all about the popular vote.

I replied that this already happens. Safe states are written off and ignored.

Only at their peril. Hillary found that out. She was counting on losing most states, but she didn't get enough of the ones she was counting on. Too much baggage and too many people who don't trust her, even Democrats.

Another thing about the popular vote: Hillary beat Trump by about 4 million votes just in California and New York. This is why she thought she could afford to snub small states and concentrate on huge populations in just a few. That needs to change. The problem is, no matter what system they build, someone will find a way to play it.

Don't think they won't be held accountable--how can they not be?

Because the other side supports gay people. And abortions. And probably gay abortions, come to think of it. Comparing those fabricated issues against voting for my best interests economically and it is obvious which one wins...

The soon-to-be official electoral vote results for 2016 are projected to be 306-232. In other words, it’s an Electoral College landslide win for Trump.

4 years later, a 306-232 landslide for Biden.

The secret super computer that hacked the election software changed all the votes to the opposite party. Trump still won with the 306, as it has been foretold.

Resurrecting long dead threads make me confused... lol
Hopefully, the posters who were so gleefully celebrating trump's victory in 2016 are still around to gleefully celebrate trump's landslide re-election in 2020 [/s]

Whatever you might call it--karma, poetic justice, or just a well-deserved smackdown--it's exceedingly gratifying.
