CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Update: I was called over to the in-laws home; he was laying on the floor blocking the door. Had to get in, get him up and in bed, call the ambulance, and now he is in intensive care. Difficulty breathing, indicates a weight on his chest though the EMT ruled out heart attack. They’re supposed to have a regular doctor in the ICU, anyway. Now we are going to the dacha to shut it down for the winter; and be ready to hurry back on a moment’s notice. Please pray for us if you can!

My FIL, Vladimir, died in the night. Although not a believer, he had been baptized and accepted unction and communion yesterday. Born in the middle of the Stalinist Terror, his father killed in a weapons explosion in 1939 when he was very small, he grew up fatherless and became a great father and grandfather. Over the past 29 years, I have come to love him as a father. Now I have to navigate the Russian funeral system. Prayers appreciated!

The funeral is today. Having gone around the hospital, getting a document rejecting an autopsy, ordering all of the stuff from the funeral services (they don’t deal with the body itself here; that is done at the hospital morgue), arranging to have the body properly prepared at the latter, and other preparations... Too busy to grieve.
