I have read in the bible sometimes God spoke to people through dreams. Recently I had my own dream . Wondering what to make of it and if my fellow Christians can help?
So to keep it brief: One night a couple weeks ago I prayed to God to forgive me for my sins and thanked him for his blessings. I fell asleep. Just before waking up I had a vivid lucid dream. In the dream I was kneeling before a large table. behind the table was a cross. The words " Obey the holy spirit" were directed towards me. After words I woke up.
I have been reading the bible more frequently ( even listening to audio bibles which I didnt before), and throughout the day thinking about scripture. Am I just crazy or can I assume this was a message from God to keep moving?
Thanks

Wow praise the Lord for this thread! I've been really researching the same thing lately as I've also had some peculiar ones that I wonder if they are from God.

An important thing to remember is that Satan can also enter our dreams but in your case, I'd say it's pretty straight forward that Satan wouldn't tell you to obey the Holy Spirit.

So I was reading through Genesis, in particular Joseph which obviously has dream elements and one particular verse that stood out to me was

Genesis 41:32 And the dream was repeated to Pharaoh twice because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass. (NKJV)

Basically Pharaoh had a double dream which ultimately had the same message. My interpretation is that he was given it twice so that he knows that it was not just a coincidence and that it was truly God establishing this dream.

This stood out to me because I recently asked God for a dream towards an answer in response to a particular situation that I'm currently facing and God gave me my answer through a dream. I then woke up and with the intention of praying before starting my day, I was asking God if that dream was truly Him reaching out to me and if He could make it even more obvious. While praying, I unintentionally fell asleep once more and had an even more obvious dream about that situation, indicating the same thing.

As amazed as I am from it and the fact that it is much like Pharaohs and how God uses "double dreams" to inform us that He has made his decision, I still must see it actually come to pass to know for sure that it was the Lord.

God may have declared but once, is mutable: but he would prevent Pharaoh’s confidence respecting the event revealed, from being shaken. For since God pronounces nothing but from his own fixed and steadfast purpose, it is enough that he should have spoken once. But our dullness and inconstancy cause him to repeat the same thing the more frequently, in order that what he has certainly decreed, may be fixed in our hearts; otherwise, as our disposition is variable, so, what we have once heard from his mouth, is tossed up and down by us, until it entirely escapes our memory. Moreover, Joseph not only commemorates the stability of the heavenly decree, but also declares that what God has determined to do, is near at hand, lest Pharaoh himself should slumber in the confident expectation of longer delay. For though we confess that the judgments of God are always hanging over our heads, yet unless we are stimulated by the thought of their speedy approach, we are but slightly affected with anxiety and fear respecting them.

this is so interesting to hear others experiencing the same thing. I guess it is true in the last days things will be stirred up and christians must stay awake!

I think in regard to dreams ... they must be in line with His written word ... so in this case I see it to be so ... and also the outcome is what He wants .... He wants everyone to spend time with Him with a lot of the being in His Word.

Personally I can't get enough of His Word .... I love Him and I love His Word!

May you continue in Him. Amen.

I think he does, but you should test what you dream about. It's also possible that a dream is misleading or just a dream. Is the message encouraging, or something that can help bring about good change in your life? If so, then it's arguably from God. If it mostly appeals to selfish desires, however, or results in troublesome thoughts or behaviors then it probably isn't.

I was surrounded by many beasts that were trying to devour me. Their appearance was horrendous, in different shapes and colors. But I was standing on a rock and none of them could touch me although they were so close.

The dream came true in a couple of month's time. The Lord showed me that I will be safe as I stand on the solid rock before I was going to be surrounded by the dark forces of evil in this world.

I remember one I had years ago involving a former co-worker. It goes to show the mercy of God and the carefulness we must show not to jump to conclusions on things.

This co-worker was a heathen by every since of the word and he wouldn't hesitate to tell you so. His antics and lifestyle were very known around the workplace. Anyway, the dream consisted of the tribulation and some of the chaos that will unfold there. And at the end of the dream I saw this co-worker stand after all the judgments and look up to see the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world. And the look on his face at the time I remembered was one of horror and amazement. So being the natural man I was, I took that to mean his judgment and doom. Fast forward a few years later (we all got called back in to work there) and rumor was that this fella got saved. So one day as I was driving around in my forklift I came upon him and got the chance to inquire. And sure enough, out of his own mouth, he got born-again. No religion. No games. He truly gave his heart and life over to the Lord.

That was one time that still sticks out to me. I'm glad I was wrong.

I have dreams that happen later sometimes too. Sometimes it will just be a snip from a tv episode to major events. Sometimes I'll have dreams where I think God was talking to me too. I never know which dreams are which though until after they come to pass. Just during the past three months I've had a couple of dreams happen later.

In one dream I was wearing a backpack, and then all of my enemies asked to pray for me, and so I asked for prayer and then I started foaming at the mouth and they were laughing at me. Meanwhile I saw these bluish ethereal lines floating across and then I woke up. Then three days later I was watching sid roth's it's supernatural and the episode was about a pastor that went to a remote village to preach and then a woman came to do rituals to curse him to death. She carried a back pack with her ritual instruments. however, when she started trying to hex the pastor, she fell down screaming, writhing, and foaming at the mouth. Around the time that the guest speaker was talking about this event, there were the same, blue ethereal lines gliding around the screen. Then the pastors, her enemies, at the prayer rally started praying for her. She then gave her testimony and decided to become a Christian and give her testimony.

In another dream I dreamed that my dad the people subleasing from my dad who during the coronavirus to split up their business and stop leasing, that they had changed their mind as my dad had hoped and renew the lease. I then asked my dad about it, and apparently he was still trying to get them to continue subleasing. I was surprised and concerned, because I didn't know that and because he should have been looking for someone else to take the lease already a while ago. So we all told him after that to look for someone else to lease it.

I dreamed of a strange, colorful logo of some kind, and the only thing I could make out of it was blue tipped wings. Then the next day I was watching ancient aliens and saw the picture. I recognized it before being able to decipher what the picture was of. It was just a drawing of an angel, with blue tipped wings.

One time I thought God spoke to me during sleep paralysis in which we had a conversation where I asked Him a bunch of questions. At the time I had lost faith in God but would still pray and go through the motions as a Christian in case I was wrong. When I woke up, I asked in my heart, how do I know that that was really you God? What proof do I have? Then I had a vision all of a sudden. I was flying somewhere off the coast of California, and somewhere off the coast of California I saw nuclear radiation go off, and it was terrifying, but i knew it wasn't from a bomb, but I didn't know from what. Then several years later I kept having the vision as a reoccurring dream over the course of a month, and then the tragic earthquake in Japan happened, and the Fukishima reactor broke and released a lot of radiation, but it wasn't from a bomb.

Kim_Marie,

Dreams may hail from three sources: our subconscious, the Lord, or Satan. Distinguishing between the three can be challenging if we read too much into it or try to make it fit a certain meaning. When in doubt, prayer is always best. :)

I’ve had many instructive dreams over the years. They usually occur with specific themes.
  • Answered prayer. A question or problem I’ve addressed is resolved in the dream.
  • Purpose. Instruction or encouragement about my calling.
  • Warning. Often relates to individuals or situations that are not in my best interest.
  • Out of sync. Usually means I’m going in the wrong direction or heading that way. They’re literal and involve trains or buses.
My first recourse after a dream is prayer and a request for interpretation. Sometimes the information is forthcoming. But in one instance, it took a year before I was given its meaning.

I look for natural and spiritual corroboration. There are few instances where the dream was the lone source of interaction on the subject. Correlations usually take place in my quiet time, discourse, or unexpected discoveries that reenforce the message.

All of this hinges on reception. Just because I’m shown something doesn’t mean I welcome the insight or respond immediately. Sometimes I chew on it for a bit.

Yours in His Service,

~Bella

Can you elaborate on the unexpected discoveries? If it is what I think you mean I may have something to add on that note.

Rest,

No problem. :)

Unexpected discoveries are events that provide information or opportunities I didn’t initiate. They landed in my lap.

For example, an unexpected business opportunity provided coaching and a product I was interested in free of charge. A suggestion made in one of the sessions opened up an avenue to develop another site, products, and participate in a summit.

An ‘unexpected discovery’ related to the subject has given me the ability to study with an instructor I couldn’t work with due to proximity. They’ve moved the program online because of Covid.

I look for practical and spiritual evidence before I attribute a situation to God. It can’t be a hunch.
  • The coach is a Christian and I’ve purchased products in the past.
  • The vision for another site and everything that followed occurred after the suggestion and my acceptance. I had to say yes.
  • The virtual events provide traffic and exposure.
  • The individual I’m studying with is the same person who advised me on my design studies years ago. It was the desire of my heart to take the program but I’d have to move to do so.
  • I expected to launch the signature product (for the new site) 3-4 years later. But I’m ahead of the curve and should have it ready in 18 months.
All of this relates to my calling. I was hesitant to take on the challenge because of the workload. But stepping out opened the floodgates. I have two more in the pipeline. I didn’t plan to launch 3 niche sites but God knows best.

My viewpoint on dreams and related phenomenon (I received my calling and business plan during my quiet time) isn’t wholly supernatural. That may not hold true for others but I think balance is important in this area.

Yours in His Service,

~Bella

Good post. Ultimately, I think we have to see whether the prophetic dream if you will (which glorifies God) comes to pass or not to truly know for sure. I don't want to fall for anything that came from satan or anything that was merely a coincidence.
