  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's on your mind?

I still find it SO mind blowing how there are adults alive now that never experienced life before the millennium. Us 90's kids may be old now, but look at what all of you 20 year olds missed! You'll never know what the the 1999 hype was like, you'll never understand how awesome new years eve that year was.

You missed the solar eclipse, you missed Toy Story, Lion King and Jungle Book at the cinema, you missed WWF when The Rock was a bad guy (he was better as a bad guy), you missed the excitement of the first text messages when mobile phones were just that, you missed the days of awesome bands on the radio, you missed the days of having to actually TELEPHONE your crush on your parents landline and then racking up an enormous bill and blaming it on your sibling, you missed basically everything.

I can't imagine what it must be like to be born literally in the iPhone generation. A life AFTER the internet. I mean, sure we had the internet, but it wasn't cool or interesting yet.

I'm only 29, yet I'm starting to feel ancient.

I remember people used to make fun of me for using the internet when I was a kid. Hard to believe I've been using google since I was 8 years old.

Yeah, it was almost stigmatised - you were considered a square where I lived if you were caught surfing the web. We were all out skateboarding, listening to music on giant boom boxes and playing knock down ginger.

If someone was staring down at their phone, we wondered would they could possibly be doing. There were only three functions: send a VERY short text, make a phone call, or (if you were lucky), play snake. But it was rare - I didn't have a mobile until quite late on in the 2000's. I had to carry change for a phone box.

When you're old enough to remember when phones were used for making phone calls.

Please, may I ask for everyone's prayers that I get to Houston safely tomorrow and that God allows me to do just well enough Saturday on the test I have to take yet again as part of immigration requirements, that I will again have just enough chance to be selected and invited to move to Ontario soon.

I remember plugging a Dreamcast into a television the size of Alnitak to get dial up internet. The monitor wobbled and everything - I was trying to send an Email, but gave up because it took 15 minutes to load.

RealOne (or RealNetwork - I can't remember) was about all we had. I used to pirate a lot of VHS tapes that way.

My time online was very minimal to be fair.

I had Juno dial up.

While high speed is nice.. you really appreciated every page that finished loading. Now refreshing this forum for instance is like nothing.

I think the high speed just fuels the addiction. It's gone from an enjoyment factor to a NEED factor.

The best thing that could happen to society is a month without internet. Learn to paint, learn the guitar, dust off the ol' vinyl, etc. It'd be a good learning experience for the millennials.

During that same month, send me to Woodstock and The Summer of Love. Or even back to the 50's.

Yeah.. sometimes I think the newer generations need to toughen up. Most of human history has been pretty horrid, and we can't always count technology and luxury being there.

What do you do when you take every step necessary to avoid fornication by taking all her stuff back, blocking her on FB, but yet she gets her handler to call you up to see what's up. I'm fleeing but I need prayers. Kthnx

Yeah, they really need to get out of this kaleidoscopic dream bubble - it's good to be optimistic, but a lot of these social media babies are just completely out of touch with reality.

I have made a huge mistake. Somehow, some way I screwed up the right testing date when I first registered for it a few weeks ago, and it was actually last Saturday, not today. :( There goes 250 bucks for nothing, and I am becoming more and more anxious to realize the Spirit's will. I don't know how much more certain I could possibly be of it. In prayer He has shown me to just not dwell on this stupid little mistake and register again for another time, to just get back up and keep going, that He will come through no matter how bleak the overall situation looks right now due to not only financial circumstances but other situations right now that could seemingly easily bar my ever getting invited by Canada.

Please pray for me to hang in there and not doubt God's faithfulness, no matter what.
