Updated: 20 States Closing all Schools

Update Sunday: 20 states closing schools statewide.
Many additional states have large districts closing.

Alabama, Alaska, Delaware, Florida, Kentucky, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin have made plans to close all schools.

To get ahead of the spread. Slow it down.

"We are announcing today that children in the state will have an extended spring break of 3 weeks," DeWine said on Twitter. "We will review it afterwards. This will begin on Monday."

"We will continue to consult with educators on this," he continued. "We have to take this action. We have to do everything we can to slow down the spread of this virus."

I think it makes good sense to extend spring break and start it early, to buy time, slow the spread, allow more testing to arrive and more testing to happen, since schools are a major easy way to spread viruses. The time and testing will find some of the virus and allow isolation.

Hi @Halbhh, has anything been said about our daycare facilities (in OH and elsewhere)? I remember one of the US Congressmen calling the Capitol building (with an in-session Congress/Senate) a "Petri dish", and if that is true of the US Capitol building, I think that it would be FAR more so of our daycare centers.

All public schools, and many if not all private schools, in Oregon, Ohio, Michigan, Maryland, Kentucky and New Mexico were told to close beginning next week....

That's so interesting. Houston now has set an example. What will happen in Texas?.... I know the state really well from living there about 27 years until 10 years ago. How is it now in Texas?

I wondered some more about Texas, and know the UT Austin (University of Texas at Austin), a very large crowded school in the center of Austin might be a kind of indicator. It is shut as of today --

So, here locally our state gov for now didn't close the schools state wide, I heard their announcement, but then the radio immediately reported next that 39 districts have decided to close on their own. That number will grow.

A large denomination I've heard this morning just decided to close their churches in the (large) area for now. That would be a lot of churches, quite a number.

12 states have closed all public schools. (But additional states have partial closures).

I think more coming.

In San Bernardino, Fontana and Los Angeles schools are closed. I sure all of CA will close schools down for an extra week. Some schools were all ready on spring break.

I will pray for you all in regards to COVID-19, as well that He will continue to provide you with the basic necessities .. Matthew 6:31-34.

It is a frightening time, so this is when trusting Him/in His promises to us becomes so very important!

The Florida-Bahamas synod of the ELCA is suspending services for a while.

We want to save the people we know that are in their 80s, including both those I know and love, and also generally, others I don't know. Both.

All local big denominations closed here. We just had a good internet service and it works and I was so glad to have it.
