It's pointless. It reminds me of things Cuomo is trying in New York just to show they're trying something flashy but it's not really going to help anything.

And,.
The travel ban comes into effect at midnight on Friday at midnight. The restrictions apply only to foreign nationals, and not U.S. citizens, green card holders or the families of U.S. citizens.

So U.S. Citizens traveling over there can just come back infected anyway.

This will put more strain on the airlines who are suffering a financial loss and perhaps more economic issues for those need to internationally travel.

We are not the only country restricting travel, however.

Ah. So I'm reading about experiences people are having to switch their flights at last minute after last night's statement. The airlines are charging large amounts of money to switch these flights.

Is money absolutely everything? What if such measures helped one of their loved ones or even they themselves from getting the virus?

Is money absolutely everything?

Welcome to America.

What if such measures helped one of their loved ones or even they themselves from getting the virus?

What if missing work and not being able to pay the rent was a far bigger concern than getting sick?

For millions of Americans, that's not a "what if"; that's their daily lives.

Of course not, but it does count, especially if a measure is ineffective on the virus but will only strain the economy more.

I don't see how it helps. Europeans can go to the UK and travel. They can travel to Canada and then to the US.
Tom Hanks contracted it in Australia.

We need more test kits. FREE kits. The US could have had lots of test kits earlier from WHO but the administration turned them down. The President could have taken this more serious in the beginning instead of calling it a hoax, and listened more to the experts.

I don't know that you're correct about this. One town, New Rochelle, has been quarantined after a rash of cases. The prisoners (real ones, not virtual ones) are now producing hand sanitizer for distribution. Events have been postponed or cancelled. Testing has been stepped up.

There was an article on that this morning. Tom and his wife did not display clear symptoms of the virus, so they would probably not have been eligible for tests here (well, without the celebrity name). They had cold symptoms, when usually the virus does not have stuffy nose. They said because the tests in Australia are free and available for everyone almost immediately, they were able to test just in case, and are now receiving treatment.

Aren't you leaving out though the plan to pay people for work days off through this time?

People have been flying from Milan into the UK and experiencing absolutely no checks or testing. The UK government response to the crisis is basically non-existent which is why we're about 1-2 weeks away from a national meltdown when our already over-strained NHS is faced with a massive surge in intake.

Well, that is what socialized medicine gets you.

I've been pretty happy with Cuomo. He immediately declared a state of emergency, has been giving regular updates involving actual facts and realistic expectations instead of the sort of nonsense that's coming out of the White House, and has now quarantined the epicenter of the outbreak here. He's also been really critical of our inability to test enough, is theoretically having co-pays waived on testing, and is talking about an emergency paid sick leave policy for the state.

I haven't been thrilled with "the subway is safe but stay away from it" mixed messages and the slowness to cancel St. Patrick's Day, but I think the state is doing about as well as it can when the federal government is a disaster.

Yep, Cuomo has got those Jews in a well-guarded ghetto, uh, I mean, quarantined.

'It caused a mass panic': travelers in Europe rush to get back to U.S. after Trump order

MADRID/PARIS (Reuters) - Bleary-eyed and stressed, travelers scrambled at European airports to board flights to the United States on Thursday after U.S. President Donald Trump announced sweeping travel restrictions to curb the spread of coronavirus.

An informative article from some different points of view.

I personally know one of those passengers who got up in the middle of the night to board a flight home.

My mother *got on* a flight to Heathrow yesterday 30 minutes after Trump spoke ("it's not a UK ban, we'll be fine... and Europe is safer right now")

I also know an elderly coworker stuck Europe.
