With how this looks like it’s starting to weight on the president perhaps he will get out of the way and let the adult professionals handle this.

I don’t hold out much hope but there is a glimmer.

The US virus came from multiple entries from China, so the analogy is spurious. At this point I'd argue any reduction on long distance travel is a good idea, although given the US spread I think EUrope benefits as much as the US.

ETA
having said that, not including the Uk in the ban makes it laughable.

On a separate but related note (I don't think we need yet another thread):

"He [Trump] said he would seek to provide "unprecedented" action that would allow sick workers to stay home and still be paid."

Here in the civilized world we call that "sick leave". not "unprecedented"

Well, obviously English speakers are immune. We only have to worry about those scary foreigners.

I am hoping that if nothing else, this crisis pulls us closer to the 21st century. :(

When he initiated the travel ban against China, it was called "racist" and "xenophobic". Now they accuse him of underreacting. In no European country, not even Italy, has the epidemic reached the point that it has in China, so Trump is ahead of the game here.

The UK is not party to the Schengen Agreement.

It's almost...criminal how poor that comparison is.

Oh, I forgot the virus respects political borders and only infects Schengen countries, and there are no cases in the UK. Silly me.

Is this yet another anti-President Trump pretext?

(I'm not even in the US...)
Amazing that the guy continually making mistakes would draw continual criticism.

It does respect political borders when governments do. That's the whole point of the travel ban.

Funny how the criticism works: supposedly blameworthy because of doing too much; supposedly blameworthy for not doing enough.

Observers may reasonably anticipate that whatever certain ppl may do, it's their fault for doing too much or not enough in the view of determined critics.
