People have different ways of burning sugar. We all do not have the same metabolism. I was complimenting a man for looking in good shape and his reply it was the accursed diabetes! That man would die in his fourties not many years after. I do not criticize people on weight issues as I was blessed with good metabolism.

I'm no pastor and being fat doesn't automatically mean glutton. A year and a half ago I was at what I considered to be 55 pounds above my ideal weight. I changed my eating habits. I eat better food and I time my meals better and snack less. I have lost at least 40 pounds. I am big boned and carry my weight well. No one would call me overweigh now. Yet the actual quantity of the food I put in my mouth every day has not changed. So now I am not a glutton but a year and a half ago I was even though my eating has not lessened? There are all kinds of nuances to consider when it comes to ingesting food. Gluttony can also mean a passion for other excesses besides food. While I know everyone wants to feel good about themselves including fat people, I still think that given a choice would a fat person rather be fat or not I think the vast majority would like to lose some weight if they could just will it to be. There are no fat pride parades that I know of. Putting evil for good is just as great a sin as the evils one does and I think that's the biggest reason Christians push back so hard against it. It isn't so much the sin (we all sin at something) but the justification of the sin is where the evil is greatest.

I'm pretty sure Christians push back against it so hard is because they are just genuinely weirded out by it. Everyone fears what they do not understand.

Picture a stray dog chewing on the bone. The bone is the only pleasure he has in life. If you try to take the bone from him he will growl and may bite you. Offer him a steak and he will drop the bone for the better pleasure. For some people, sex is the old dog bone. They chew on it because it is the pleasure they live for. If you try to threaten their pleasures they will get upset with you and will be offended. They also try to reduce the things of Christ to the things of this world.

The pleasures of heaven are more of the steak variety. Only the Holy Spirit can lead us out of the dark cave of the bones and pleasures of this world and show us of the things superior and of celestial nature. With the way out of darkness folks will gladly lay down the pleasures of this world for the higher things.

Gluttony is a form of worldliness and so is the desire for wealth.

Not much difference between gluttony and homosexuality.

Proverbs 23:2
And put a knife to your throat If you are a man of great appetite.

Deuteronomy 21:20
They shall say to the elders of his city, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey us, he is a glutton and a drunkard.’

Proverbs 23:20
Do not be with heavy drinkers of wine, or with gluttonous eaters of meat;

Proverbs 23:21
For the heavy drinker and the glutton will come to poverty, and drowsiness will clothe one with rags.

Proverbs 28:7
He who keeps the law is a discerning son, But he who is a companion of gluttons humiliates his father.

Matthew 11:19
The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.”

Luke 7:34
The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’

Titus 1:12
One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.”

Philippians 3:18-20
For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ, whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite.

That's all very good information but it doesn't answer the question.

The bible clearly states that gluttony is a sin and that the body is a temple of the holy spirit and should be honored.

It would seem then that people who are overweight are clearly in sin (barring medical conditions)

So why is it acceptable to be a fat pastor in sin, but not a gay pastor in sin?

Well gluttony is a sin but being overweight is not necessarily so. There are many causes for people being overweight, low thyroids, medications, metabolism, etc. Gluttony shows itself in people being overweight, but it is a sin of the heart as food is elevated equal to or greater than God.

You are equating being overweight with gluttony when the two are not inextricably related.

Thin people can be gluttons as well and overweight people many don't eat that much but have trouble with their metabolism, genetics etc.

It comes down to are you eating more food than your body needs?

The last person in the world I am afraid of is a queer. Fear is God's gift to man to preserve what he has and is. Fear God and shun evil.

Is It a Sin to Be Fat?

Before answering the question, let's first define "fat." This is an unfortunate word used to categorize and label people. It is applied to slightly overweight, moderately overweight or extremely overweight bodies and too often is used in an unkind, derogatory, way. Doctors seldom use the word "fat," because it can be discouraging and it is their intention to help and encourage an overweight person in weight-loss efforts for health improvement. As Christians, we must remember that the body is a gift from God and there is beauty in every body shape and weight.

Some people claim that being overweight is a sin because the Bible clearly states that the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). However, we must ask, who determines the standard for overweight and who defines sin? The Bible does not say that being overweight is a sin, so we should never label something as sin when the Bible does not.

Gluttony
With all that said, we should understand that some of the behaviors that contribute to being excessively overweight can be sinful. Specifically, the behavior of gluttony. Gluttony is the act of eating large amounts of food, far beyond that which is necessary to satisfy hunger, sustain life and fuel the body. Gluttony is almost always an outward sign of an inward emotional need that is being satisfied with excessive food consumption. And, gluttony is labeled as a sin in the Bible.

I agree with you...... Maybe obese people should not be in positions of leadership... They should be under full control of their house and temple/bodies, before presuming to show others how to walk upright. No excuse for illnesses, for by His strips we are healed.....and the leader are the ones we are to call upon, when we are sick, to be healed....

Homosexuality is a special sin because its not natural. It shows a total perversion of one's mind.

The Unrepentant Glutton and the Unrepentant Homosexual end up side by side in the same Lake of Fire for all eternity, do they not?

Or are you saying the unrepentant Glutton has a better, more comfortable, eternal fate?

What if your pastor is thin but you observe him piggy out at the church supper?

And the reference to his strips means healing from eternal death. Just as the blind man was born to show the love of God and his sons healing power, so are others that have diseases.

Gluttony and overweight are not synonymous terms. I've had many episodes of gluttony, yet, because of my genetics, always remain thin. Therefore, to those who judge by outward appearance, I would never get rebuked for gluttony.....and would be in danger of hellfire.

Likewise, there may be some, who can eat normal portions and gain a lot of weight.

There fore, we can only presume to call another a glutton, if we spent a day with them and watched their eating habits.....not by weighing them or looking at their appearance.

I promise you that gluttony is not on the same level as homosexuality.
You promise that Unrepentant Gluttons fair better in the Lake of Fire for all eternity than do Unrepentant Homosexuals? and you know this from "Personal Experience"?
