  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Incorrect. That's a fantasy Hillary's been telling herself and others to dull the pain of her failed election attempt. Having a slightly higher vote count does not entitle Hillary and the Democrats to overturn the election.
I have to agree with that. The "popular vote" whine is useless. Trump was duly elected by the constitutional method now in force. If you don't like the Electoral College system, then try and change it, but right now that's how the game is played. On the other hand, the Right's notion that all of the present hoorah is about "overturning the results of the election" and somehow installing Hillary in his place is a lurid fantasy which makes the Right appear unhinged.

Is THIS all it takes for people to say "Well, that's fair, then?"

I don't think so. Only a dedicated political partisan could say something like that. "When we've gotten through violating all the rules, and gotten done what we wanted by so doing, then we'll reveal the truth or something we will call the truth."

What rule is being violated please? If the transcripts are not good enough for this process why are they good enough in the case of the president? I don't see you calling for any recordings to be revealed.

Well, if they violated any rules you'll eventually know that too. The Republicans that sit on three committees will be able to tell you exactly what happened, they are behind those closed doors some listening and others listening and asking questions.

No worries, the Nunes version of events will surely trigger another round of grievances.

After the fact. And after the damage has been done. And we only have Schiff's word for that!

How can anyone blithely talk as though this is right?? :sorry:

What damage? Don't you believe that Pres. Trump is innocent?

If Schiff were to fail to release them someone else would. Schiff isn't a King where he can run roughshod over all the other members in all the other committees that know what's going on.

Do you know how these committees work???
The question is, do you?

Do Republicans have equal subpoena powers? Are Republicans allowed to cross-examine the witnesses? Do Republicans have equal time?

Even Jerry Nadler's judiciary committee rolled Republicans in televised hearings when the committee questioned Corey Lewandowski. To Democrats' chagrin though Lewandowski mocked them with a straight face throughout the questioning so that Republican questioning wasn't really necessary ... but it was a rigged hearing ... but a hearing that went so badly for Democrats that they haven't had an open hearing since.

I am under no illusion that Adam Schiff's kangaroo court being conducted behind closed doors is conducted any more fairly than the farce that Jerry Nadler spear-headed.

What damage? .
I've previously outlined the consequences of this assault on law, the Constitution, and established institutions of government. Also, about how one party circumvents the law and, if it succeeds, it will be encouraged to do it again while the other party will feel like adopting the same tactics in response. It cannot fail to hurt the country.

You mean like the way Barr gave a completely dishonest summary of the Mueller report and shape the narrative before the public were allowed to see it?

I don't see where there has been any assault on the law by the Congress or any Congressional members.

Yep
Do Republicans have equal subpoena powers?
The Chairman of the committee has the authority to issue subpoenas after consulting with the ranking minority member or by vote by the whole committee.
Are Republicans allowed to cross-examine the witnesses? Do Republicans have equal time?
Yes and yes.
Even Jerry Nadler's judiciary committee rolled Republicans in televised hearings when the committee questioned Corey Lewandowski.
Do you really want all of that politicization of questioning? Put a TV camera in front of this and little gets done.

I am under no illusion that Adam Schiff's kangaroo court being conducted behind closed doors is conducted any more fairly than the farce that Jerry Nadler spear-headed.
Republicans can release the facts of the hearing just as Democrats can. That little is coming out only shows Republicans have nothing good to talk about.

No, you've previously made unsupported and false statements about how this impeachment process is an assault on the law, when the reality is, it is following the law. Trump's claims of "treason" and refusing to adhere to subpoenas are the assault on law. The Constitution explicitly lays out the responsibility of the House as a check on Presidential authority.

Meh. Trump's claim of Treason has every bit as much validity as the House "impeachment" activity.

Noting that in addition to providing a "check on Presidential authority", as you say, congress also has a number of prescribed responsibilities which responsibilities have been largely neglected as the Democrat leaders devote all of their time to the impeachment frenzy.

Like what? They've passed more Bills than the Senate.
