But we need to be very cautious of judging people in areas that are left for the liberty of our consciences.

Romans 14:

1 Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.
2 For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.
3 Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.
4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.
7 For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.
8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.
9 For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.
10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

to say the truth about something bad is not to judge.

the Holy Spirit issues some of us the Gift of Discernment. through this Gift, we are able to know typically when someone is lying directly to us in a conversation or how they answer. through this Gift, we are able to detect if one is a like believer or non-believer. through this Gift, we also know when someone is under the power of God or of themselves. we have many BENEFITS to this amazing and wonderful Gift of Discernment.

but in all that Discernment allows us to see and understand, it does so by JUDGING those we are in contact with, pass by, know, whomever we meet Discernment is JUDGING them!!

and when God reveals His judgement through His Gift of Discernment, we also are judging by understanding what the Holy Spirit is doing..

It (telling the truth) can get someone arrested, banned, executed (remember Yochanan the Immerser w.as killed for what he said ) (and however many recently / this year/ last 50 years/ also) ...

never said the Gift then enabled us to condemn, just said what the Gift's actual job description is and the list of duties it does..

this is discernment in action, but, if you have them ill filled gut feelings just about when something bad is about to be unleashed/happen, that is a very good JUDGEMENT being made. you are not necessarily judging individually, but entirely, as the whole scene just appears to be sketch. and if you run before it breaks loose, then that was very good JUDGEMENT on Your behalf to be in tune with God to know when He is saving Your life.

so, we do need to live in an area where JUDGING is common, but not for self gain, not to belittle another, not to have the upper hand in a situation, but to judge based upon God allowing you to see beyond what is before your eyes and know this is when I need to exit this scene A.S.A.P.

It is very different to say a true thing than it is to judge a person.

It is different to judge an action than it is to judge a person also.

Here's the severe trouble if we go past judging an action, and begin to judge the person themselves:

1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

Matthew 7 NIV
----------

Verse 5 can remind us of another very helpful verse about trying to judge an action:

John 7:24 Stop judging by outward appearances, and start judging justly."
Even to judge an action, we should be very careful not to jump to conclusions, but to judge even an action cautiously.

-----------

Paul also echoed this in another way -- he reminds us that when we judge other people, we are judging them for what we ourselves have done!

1You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. 2Now we know that God’s judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. 3So when you, a mere human being, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God’s judgment? 4Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?

5 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed.

Romans 2 NIV

---------

Best to not judge people ever! If we have, we should repent, because:

Matthew 7:2 For with the same judgment you pronounce, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

You want to have a very forgiving and non-judgemental way of even judging actions!

Realize they are sinners just like you and everyone else, and we are all only saved only because of the Amazing Grace of God through Jesus Christ.

But, we can indeed tell people what is a right action -- what is right and good to do! That's good to do.

"Judging justly" or righteously is regarding having no prejudice against the poor and nothing to do with actions.
While we could get the situation that makes verse 24 clear from verse 23, best for us is to read the full passage, from verse 1 through 24. With verses 1 and 23 though, we do see what He is addressing here in 24 clearly.

Yes, millions of excuses, but no valid ones.

As you judge others shortcomings, likewise will God judge your shortcomings.
