There seems to be an ongoing debate about which day the sabbath is. I'm told it is Sunday, and then when I go do research, a good majority of it says Saturday. Now I'm having question marks bouncing around my head because I don't know whos right and whos wrong. If Jesus took the law with him to the cross, wouldn't that take away the sabbath? Or actually no wait... If the entire 10 commandments still apply to Christians, then why is the sabbath still Saturday? Isn't it Sunday? I am literally confused.

oh ps: explain Isaiah 58:13; if sabbath keeping is still a requirement for Christians. Im thinking ok.. maybe he means if we go to work anyway (our own pleasure) when he says not to. Maybe I'm wrong?

Yah said in Isaiah 58:13 d....if you honor the Sabbath, not going your own way or seeking your own pleasure or talking idly and take your delight on Yah, you will be blessed... My words ...you will be blessed beyond anything you could ask or hope. Ephesians 3:20.

I recommend you just duckduckgo to "sabbath saturday or sunday" and click on the first 3-5 links. Read through them and see all they have to say. This is my default step before taking to forums. Read what several people from different viewpoints have taken the time to publish online, supported by scriptures. Hold them in context with one another, throw them against your spiritual wall, and see what sticks. Trust in the Holy Spirit to guide you to truth, and separate it from misguided teachings. I could give you a simple answer here on the question, but my advice here will serve you on this simple question and any and all future questions you may have. If it is something very esoteric and difficult to simply search and read, then by all means come to the forums for insight. I am not trying to be dismissive, but simply using the "teach a man to fish" approach. God bless you, and your search for deeper understanding of the Word.

When Jesus died on the cross at 3pm on the Friday afternoon, the great curtain separating the holy of holies in the temple was ripped from top to bottom. That signalled the total end to all observances to the Mosaic Law, including the Ten Commandments, the Sabbath, priesthood, sacrifices, circumcision, and everything else connected with Jewish ceremonies and rituals. Participating in any of these is totally pointless because Christ became all in all the moment He died.

This means that any religious system that involves priests, sacrifices, observances of the Law, sabbaths, formal ceremonies and rituals is pointless worship because they do it apart from Christ and therefore has absolutely no value to God whatsoever. Jesus has become the Law for us, and the new Law (God's moral law, which is His nature and character) is written on our hearts which means we don't have to use the Bible as a lawbook to moderate our conduct. The Holy Spirit works in our renewed conscience to give us a jolt (conviction) when we start to stray off the straight and narrow.

So, in a sense, every single day is a sabbath to us, because we get up each morning and say (or we should say), "This is the day that the Lord has made and I will rejoice and worship you in it in everything I do, because I do it all as unto the Lord."

Jesus raised the law from physical and ceremonial to spiritual.

OC: Abstain from evil.
NC: Do what is good.

The weekly Sabbath is still 'holy time', meant to benefit you. It's true meaning and purpose is rest, repose, and renewal. Not ceremony and ritual (Sunday is a great day for all of that). Something most need badly. It's never been tested or proven but I believe that one will benefit from resting on the seventh day more than any other time period.

Under Jewish Law, it was a requirement for salvation and a person was condemned to hell if he broke it. But for us, Jesus has become our Sabbath, and so our day of rest, whether we use Saturday or Sunday, is not required for our salvation, nor is it for our sanctification, but for our personal health and well-being. Being retired, I have four days out of seven off from my part-time job, and apart from the household duties my wife (she who must be loved and obeyed at all times) assigns to me, these days are "sabbath" to me! I don't see them as special "holy" days at all. They are what I call "blob-out' days! :)

Man's 'Sabbath' may well be Sunday but God's Sabbath is the 7th day, aka Saturday. If your pastor insists ask him why you can't sleep in on Sunday morning, as it's a (full) day of rest.

In fact ask him how to apply the other commandments as well. He knows the answer, and it will likely surprise you (if he is really frank it will shock you) that he hasn't given a sermon on the subject.

I am sure you're are really confused after reading all the post to this thread and the one from a few days ago.

The opinion you want is from the God of Abraham. Isaac, and Jacob, pray earnestly to Him and start reading in the the 1st chapter of Genesis and read the 5 books of Torah, then Psalm 119, Isaiah, then the Gospel of Mark, the books by Peter, John, Jude, James then Paul last. If you don't understand a passage or verse pray and reread it till you do. People will only give their dogma. Quit asking people for their opinions.

Read those books then come back in a few months, and share what the Almighty has done.

im not asking for opinions, im asking for the truth. And besides thats most likely what god wants us to do, ask questions!

Well, in the US, Canada, most of South America, Australia, Israel, Japan, India, and some Muslim countries (like Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran, Pakistan, and Bangladesh) the 7th day is Saturday. But in Mexico, China, and most European countries, Sunday is the 7th day.

So who's right?

Never heard that.

The 10 commandments don't apply to Christians although they hold a lot of good truths to live by.

I believe every day is a sabbath, simply meaning commune with God every day. I believe the sabbath day in the Old Testament was made more for humanity to be able to try and follow a rule since they were under the law and didn't have the Holy Spirit poured out.
The New Testament never commands Christians to observe the Sabbath.
In Colossians 2:16-17, Paul refers to the Sabbath as a shadow of Christ, which is no longer binding since Christ has come.
"16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ."
Sure church meets on a Sunday, but I see that as simply being for convenience not because there is anything special about Sundays.

If you feel you need one day to be a special sabbath do so, if not don't. Emphises from the above verse. "Let no man judge you in respect of sabbath days"

It's not about days it's about God.

Your pastor is not preaching the gospel that Paul preached. There are no more Ten Commandment and Sabbath for Christian believers. Christ has replaced it all. It is the indwelling Holy Spirit who works in us to conform us to the nature and character of Christ, which is the same as conforming us to God's moral law which existed as part of His divine and eternal nature long before Moses brought the Ten Commandments down from Mount Sinai.

There were many who were saved by God's grace through faith long before the Ten Commandments were instituted for Israel. But when Jesus died, the whole Jewish Law was abolished, and those who try to keep the Ten Commandments as a set of rules to be acceptable to God are mixing faith with works and therefore are believing a false gospel which will end them up in hell.

This is not to say that we should not be sanctified and holy before God, but Jesus has now become our righteousness, and our faith in Him alone without any observance to the Law enables us to be totally righteous before God and releases the Holy Spirit to work in us to sanctify us and make us holy.

That pastor needs to repent from his works-based gospel otherwise he will condemn himself to hell along with those who accept his teaching.
