Yeah, marriage forms a family unit. Once it's made, you don't need to populate beyond your means. We have 7.5 billion people alive right now, we had 6 billion fewer people just a century ago. More than half of the world's nations are below replacement rate and still the human population is growing expodentially. We were commanded to be fruitful and multiply - we fulfilled the heck out of that commandment. It's perfectly find for anyone to then pull the breaks. Case in point, my own mother could have been putting her life in danger were she to have a 4th child.

Laws were passed to permit the forced sterilization of those deemed to be mentally defective or criminals. Some of these laws are still on the books.

My mother had no choice, sadly, because of contaminated food from a restaurant. Addressing the "be fruitful and multiply" thing, I would say there is never too many Christians in the world and if you raise your children to be godly men and women, have as many kids as you can feed.

And if you look, you will find that eugenics has since been spread to the United Nations, et al., with the world wide goal to selectively reduce the population of the world.

In many countries in Europe they have succeeded in fostering this notion. So much so, that even Ireland now allows abortion. And Iceland is hailed as conquering the problem of having any mentally deficient births. Their solution is to abort all children who are mentally handicapped before they are born.

China, as we know, had for years a limit on the number of children that could be born to a couple, with the result that many male children in that country won't be able to find a wife when they are ready to marry.

And in the U. S. the birth rate is also decreasing and has done so for many years now.

Which is and has been a sad, but standard pattern in the modern history of protestantism.
Letting go of ones absolutes, one by one.
Nowadays many of the protestant sects even bless homosexuality and mock true love by calling good for evil, and evil for good.
So this is a pattern and a rather sad one at that.

I remember how many of my pentecostal relatives considered drinking to be sinful just a decade or two ago. Now they drink themselves.
Female pastors are another example of this development I'm talking about.

There might very well be churches that hold more firmly to their denominational identity and roots. I'm only referring to what seems to be mainline protestantism.
