I am stopping in to share my current view on the church and was wondering if there were any others here that were some kind weird protestant like me.

So I am unaffiliated with any of the high churches such as Rome, Orthodox Eastern, or Oriental. Guess that makes me a Protestant. I however find it fascinating that these churches have unbroken presbytery lines from the Apostles. I think that was Paul and the other Apostles original intent. The reason I haven't been keen on any of the high churches is because of some questionable induction over the years by the churches, at least I think. Obviously Paul was teaching to venerate the saints yet this is a big deal in high churches. I am not against venerating the saints, but by how much it is stressed and other such things that are stressed. I like good things, but saying that these are must and stressing them highly in practice is hard for me to accept.

Unlike most protestants I do not affirm the typical "faith alone" approach to salvation. Unless you me by Jesus' faith alone :D. I like the the more open canons of Catholicism and Orthodoxy, hey even a little bit of the Tawahedo tradition :D.

Are there any other weird people who aren't sure what they are?

I fall into the description of a very high Anglican/Lutheran hybrid. Even my Mariology is higher than most Protestants, although influenced by Eastern Orthodoxy not quite that high.

I consider myself very high Church and not a Protestant or evangelical at all. I have a deep devotion to the Eucharist myself. I do not protest the Catholic or Orthodox Church and use resources from both and most definitely do not affirm anything alone like faith alone, Scripture alone, etc

If you do not affirm "faith alone," then you aren't Protestant at all. There is such a thing as Non-Denominational, who do not identify with any of the ones you mentioned.

By the way protestantism wasn't exactly affirmed when it came out about 1600 years after the church started either.

I only put I am in quotes so that the mods didn't think I was making a thread about weird protestants (slander).

What distinguishes Protestantism from the rest are the five solas, among other things such as the number of books in the canon. Obviously, faith alone is part of that bedrock that we affirm against the Papist.

Most do mean "Faith alone in Jesus to Save us".

I believe quite a few verses in the epistles where the word faith is used it actually is in reference to Christ. In other words we are saved by His faith(fulness). I think our response it supposed to be faithfulness to Him and God. Hope that helps.

I'm weird. I am married to a deeply Baptist man, can not attend Mass, love Catholics, love the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox, admire many Protestant Christians and think of them as brothers and sisters, and am basically so far out of Protestantism, you can't accurately describe me as such any more.

It's ok to be weird. We're all on a journey as Christians.

Thanks for the reply. I used to be part of the Baptist denomination myself. Did you once use to be a protestant?

Back in the old days, I was in no way Catholic. But I still thought the "reformers" had thrown the baby out with the bathwater concerning Our Lady and the saints.

It's okay to ask questions and ponder and search. Labels exist to provide clarity. But they can sometimes be a bit restrictive. All we can do is try our best.

If you refer to the canon of Sacred Scripture, I think it's incumbent upon me to say that the Catholic Church considers the canon to be closed. I think the Orthodox Church has essentially the same belief regarding the canon.

I did. I came to Christ through the preaching and witness of a community of Baptist Christians. Stayed in Baptist churches for years with my husband. They're dear people.

I'm wondering what you mean by "affirmed"? I am not denominational. I don't like pigeon holes. There is one Church and you have to be born into it by personally accepting Christ, not by being born into a family of churchgoers. There are all kinds of doctrinal differences which, sadly, produce great division. But not from God's point of view. All who are born again are the Church, all who are not born again are not the Church.

Not one thing in the list will get you Saved, Protestants, Catholics, Orthodox, hasn't any body ever heard of Unity in the Spirit, these prejudices ought not be so.

Any believer who does not fall under the banner of Catholicism is by default Protestant, whether or not they think different, there aren't any other categories.
