  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

On the first point you’re entirely correct but on the second I’m afraid entirely wrong. Evolution does not promote racism in any way, and it’s not a ‘theory’ as in a guess. A scientific theory, means something very different to the word theory we use in common parlance.

A definition: “A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment.”

Thanks for clearing this up. Darwin's ideas about evolution really can't be called a theory because they have never been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experimentation.

Pretty nasty to tarnish one such as Reagan. Wonder what the bible says about that.

He was a fair actor, great Govenor and President.
Wouldn't trade 5 of the others for him.

Not according to Darwin's book titled On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle for Life.

The book's use of 'race' is what we would call varieties nowadays. The book barely refers to humans at all, much less their races.

Darwin said this in his book The Descent of Man:

The western nations of Europe, who now so immeasurably surpass their former savage progenitors, and stand at the summit of civilisation, owe little or none of their superiority to direct inheritance

While Darwin, like just about everyone in England at the time, believed in the superiority of Europeans, he does not support this racist idea upon genetic inheritance (i.e. the basis of his theory of evolution).

His administration had many blemishes. One had to do with the lack of action on the AIDS epidemic.
He didn't care. His aides joked about it just involving gays and druggies who were mostly black. So who cares.
Reagan eventually, under pressure, assigned his Surgeon General, C. Everett Koop, to investigate it. Koop was very right wing and a strong family values person, but approached the investigation in a purely scientific manner with public health in mind. When he was done, he had his report printed up and mailed out to County and state health departments, then turned it in to Reagan. He also did something very unprecedented and mailed information to every US household. Why? Because he was aware that he was prohibited from investigating it sooner for political reasons. He worried that the report would be held back. Many of Koop's supporters were mad at him for advocating sex education in schools for prevention, for encouraging instruction on the proper use of condoms for prevention and for his frank explanation of the disease. The Reagan administration had to finally start funding AIDS research better and address the issue.

It is too bad that Reagan referred to blacks as 'monkeys' but not really surprising at all.

If Reagan is guilty of the allegations, as the evidence indicates, then he deserves to be scrutinized.

The long running theme here is that some people in power don't care much about portions of the population they deem "lesser" in some way than them and their agenda.

It's also a common theme that people that are able to claw their way into power and wield it effectively are often some of the worst examples of people in general.

Nope just the truth and I do not see that racist word that is in the title of this thread.

Of course some just throw that out there like it's nothing don't they?
M-Bob
To be clear, you actually believe what he said isn't racist?

I don't believe that Reagan was a racist.

I was pretty amazed how someone put all of those posts and threads together.

Just not that site and computer wise here.

I understand that we seem to be on different sides of the road.
But, I do wish for you a nice evening.

Most of your post is directed at the wrong person. You're confusing me with someone else.

I didn't ask you if you think Reagan was a racist. I asked if you think that what he said isn't racist.

Nope just the truth

And yet that's what the authors of this piece are doing, presumably.

and I do not see that racist word that is in the title of this thread.

I didn't say you used that word.

Lots of people throw out lots of things.

I don't believe that Reagan was a racist.

That's not what was asked.

I was pretty amazed how someone put all of those posts and threads together.

Just not that site and computer wise here.

Yeah, the search function is an amazing tool.

Sounds like you're advocating to never criticise your rulers. Is that correct?
I'll modernize the language so you can understand. It's expressed like this, "Anything you say may be used against you..."

I listened to each recording.

And as soon as they bring up race or anything hate, he just laughs and ends the conversation.

That's not racist, its uncomfortable.
He called Africans monkeys.

Thanks, but who released them is not directly relevant to the question I asked: how do we know that these aren't deep faked? Remember the Pentagon Papers?
Occams razor? Unless there is evidence they are fake, we have no reason to suspect that.

....a private phone conversation in 1971.

Reagan makes a racist joke and we are to consider him a "virulent racist"?
I would definitely consider anyone who made such a “ joke “ or thought that funny a virulent racist.

Audio recordings of Reagan talking to Nixon in October 1971 have been revealed, proving once and for all that Reagan was a revolting racist.

Ronald Reagan's Long-Hidden Racist Conversation with Richard Nixon

From that gentle time when Republican politicians still bothered to keep their racism behind closed doors.

Many people think blacks are monkeys; is that even considered racist anymore? I mean racism is so new...

You can tell who he was by his policies just like Trump. It also makes sense why he is the greatest president for some. I pity those who wait for their peers or "autthorities" to tell them how to think when the truth is clear.

I used the word "honestly" for a reason.

But even then, it's one thing to argue that this isn't racist. It's another thing altogether to claim that Reagan didn't say it or that he merely stammered in response to somebody else saying something. Whatever you think of the meaning of the words, that's just an entirely incorrect description of the conversation.
This kind of denial is how atrocities happen while “good” people stand by.
