• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I'm actually very lucky because most of my fibro symptoms have gone away over the years, but it took time.

wow, that is amazing!

I actually feel that am getting worse as time goes by as
@SweetCarolina said even though I eat salads, blueberries, green tea, fruits, and veggies
have started with vitamin D and also just started taking a multivitamin so will see if that helps

at this moment my chest along ribs, along clavicle, back, arms , hips all hurt so difficult to sleep
my neck acts up every day so alternate with heat on my neck and then back.....heat does help temporarily and use a tennis ball on neck/back

besides pain which affects sleep, only other symptom is fibro fog for me
sometimes when it appears, can't think, lol
or my words come out weird which is good for a laugh from family

It required extreme changes in my life, as well as time. I walked away from a controlling, conservative church and learned to be more assertive and say no to peoples demands. I had to walk away from church altogether, I found a good psychotherapist that specialized in dealing with trauma and abuse, and I started going to a yoga studio, learned some yoga and meditation, and considered myself "spiritual, but not religious" for a while.

I also learned about Chinese and herbal medicine and sought out a good traditional Chinese doctor who specialized in hormonal problems, and she gave me acupuncture about once a month for a year, as well as taking alot of herbs she made. Focusing on liver cleansing formulas like Xiao Yao Wan helped a great deal, as well as using bitters with meals, something I still do. Lots of detoxification, emotional processing, and just relearning to be comfortable with myself.

I still have IBS and GERD, which happened around the same time. My digestive system is still out of whack. But fibro pain is very rare now days.

LOL! I did the opposite! I turned to God. Got much closer to Him and I had to learn to say "Yes" more often! Quite being so in control and let God handle things-----my IBS is what disappeared! I was headed towards GERD, but that ended.

That kind of spirituality can help people but for me, my bad church experienced poisoned Christianity. I still struggle with it, and I always try to remind pastor to keep things like that in mind, many people have gone through spiritual abuse. Though since most people in my church are cradle Lutherans, it's something that is mostly alien to their experience.

I even had a cancer scare during this time period early on. What really touched me was the compassion of the doctors and nurses that dealt with me, and I contrasted that with the conditional "love" I found at my previous church (which was an Eastern Orthodox church), which was really no love at all.

I've had it for over 27 years. The research suggests that those who have had "cures" didn't have it to begin with---it mimics many things. It is a brain dysfunction. I've tried elimination diets and all sorts of stuff---nothing did any good. Lyrica and Savella helps some--side affects on me were too severe. LDN did help some, but I couldn't afford it. Morgan Freeman and Lada Gaga both have it.

My whole body felt like it was on fire, like neuropathy. I had brain fog too. It isn't something that went away right away. I can still get flareups if I don't get enough sleep and I neglect basic self-care, but now I know how to pace myself.

As I said, I made radical changes to my life, I was tired of feeling bad. And it took alot of time, years even.

don't understand when others say fibro went away
because have yet to read about a cure for fibro

what have read it that it has something to do with ATP at the cellular level, and despite sleep, never really recoup

People do spontaneously recover or get better, though it's rare, and scientists don't fully understand why.

I don't think I'm 100 percent where I was before, more like 90 percent. I don't think an absolute cure is realistic. But that's alot better than in the past.

I learned in Chinese medicine to not think of health problems in such a reductionistic fashion. At the cellular level, probably alot of things are going wrong, trying to just find a silver bullet is not the right approach. The human body is more than a machine. In Chinese medicine, they recognize that our physical body interacts with our spirit, and vice versa. That's one of the reasons I realized walking away from a toxic church situation was the correct one, even if I was committed to it and it was initially painful.

So sorry---I had cancer also. I went 2 years ago for colon cancer surgery and went into respiratory failure afterwards--I was on a vent for 2 mths. When I woke up I couldn't even sit up in bed--the first time I stood was for 30 seconds! It took a month of rehab to get me back into my wheelchair so I could come home. My husband died a year later. He thought I was going to die and gave up--he literally spend those 3 months drunk. By the time I came home and he really realized I was OK--it was too late, the damage had been done. This last year has been traumatic and I've had to draw closer to God to get through it in one piece!
I am very grateful for that coma---first time in 20 years I finally got enough sleep!!! I had been worried about having to face the post surgical pain--my fibro brain retains the memory of past pain and will repeat it. I prayed I wouldn't have to experience post surgical healing pain the rest of my life!---I was just about totally healed when I woke up! Just a couple non-painful spots that required a dressing for a couple weeks. My church came and anointed me when I was in a coma--have no recollection. I hadn't been to church in years since I was in my wheelchair--unable to get there. My husband called them.
After his passing I was on the verge of loosing my home and had to just trust in God even after BOA refused to do a loan modification to help me. Prayed and prayed and a group loaned me over $45,000 to lower my payments. There is one stipulation---I have to live in the house for 5 years--SO, I now have to live until Aug. 13, 2023---whether I want to or not, since my church and 2 nieces are to split my home and everything in it when I go. God has been there for me every step of the way.

I think of it as being a variety of pain and insomnia disorders probably caused by problems with neural connections in the brain and not, as previously thought, an auto-immune disorder related to arthritis and rheumatism. Because all of the disorders share the same symptoms they are classed as being fibromyalgia. However, the fact is that a wide range of treatments of the symptoms is used with individuals responding well to some treatments, if they are fortunate, but not at all to others. Unfortunately, there are too many fibro sufferers who get little to no relief from any treatment.

Eliminating stress in one's life seems to be a key factor in reducing the pain and insomnia levels for us. It has helped to a great extent in my own case.

I had fibro so bad I had to stop using Invisaligns, it drove me insane (I came down with fibro right while I was using them). The fibro amplified pain and made anything like that intolerable. The dentist graciously offered to refund my money, as a result.

It sounds as i you had a drug reaction which has led to a chronic pain disorder. Refunding your money is the very least your dentist ought to have done.

"Hello all fellow Fibro sufferers, I guess I'm officially in this club.

"This is very helpful to me. I've been looking into CBD and THC things to help the fibro and other chronic pains I have. It's good to see someone who has used it who has what I do and say that it works. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on it.

"Also I've heard a lot about magnesium but have been very skeptical about that, still I will consider just about anything to see if it at least helps.

"I'm 31 and as I get older it feels like the pain is getting worse and other fibro symptoms as well. Like they're changing or evolving, and also it feel like I'm gaining new symptoms that I didn't have when I was younger. "
==============================================
I suggest don't be too skeptical, but do test and verify things.

There are millions of mixed reviews on cbd etc , though I would favor avoiding it due to its history and side effects not only in the body and mind, but also the reasons it is 'pushed' (profit/ economy/ control)....

Others, including in my own family, took years to recover, and basically a raw food diet, with some guidance, is what worked. This was even when supplements did not work. Supplements, AFTER being tested by a naturopathic trained person (some ama doctors are trained) with experience for years, to know which ones
are needed, can help quickliy . CHelation theraby has helped a lot also, whenver mercury or other pollutants are present (this is one high cause, btw).

I have lived with fibromyalgia, chronic myofacial pain and various other issues associated with the fibro package for the last 27 years now, but was not diagnosed until 2008. I am 54 and effectively have the functioning body of an eighty year old!

You have my complete sympathy. Amplifying our problem is that fact that we appear and give every evidence to those we interact with as if we are perfectly healthy. After I was diagnosed in 2006 a friend asked me if I was better now. My response was to ask him what he meant by "better". I will never be "better" in the sense that I will never be healthy again, but I am coping with the symptoms (pain and insomnia) well enough so that I have good functionality. It is an on-going battle.
