Mercy could allow them to continue doing what they are doing with no consequences for their actions. What is the point of prayer if God can't sway the situation if he shows mercy?

Maybe He’s allowing that for your benefit. There maybe something for you to take from it. It happen to Paul with the thorn in his side.

If they aren't repentant, it's possible, but I doubt it's something we can count on in the here and now. Judgment day is a different story, all depending on where they are, as in Repentant Christian or not.

Some people won't feel guilty, but there again, God could help them along but in my view, doubtful. He tends to wait till the end to take care of the tares.

That's not mercy. That's more like an abandonment. Hebrews 12:6 says God disciplines whom He loves.

I don't think that God will actively force a person against their will to feel sorrow or guilt or discomfort for having wronged someone. That is something they have to feel on their own.

It's hard. But the best we can do is focus on our own walks with God, work on forgiveness, pray for them, and force ourselves to think of something else, and especially of Christ, when we risk growing bitter, or stuck.

What sometimes helps me is talking with God about how much He loves the person who has caused pain, to try to see them as He does. It's hard, and the battle against anger, cynicism, bitterness, and unforgiveness is real. You have to work at it. But God will help you, if you let Him.

There's a part of me that once wanted those who wronged me to hurt for it. I felt guilty about that, but feeling guilty didn't fix anything.

There are some vicious sentiments in the Psalms. It's not forbidden to feel legitimate anger, but you have to stand ready to forgive those who repent.

The only rational motive to care what your enemies feel is because of what it might lead them to do. If hurting leads them to change their ways, that's great. If it doesn't, then it's like tormenting a vicious and stupid animal. It's beneath one, even if the animal previously bit you.

Also, many people are utterly beyond remorse. They don't have it in them to feel bad about what they've done.

I no longer look to God to be the enforcer of my sense of grievance.

Well obviously sometimes evil people do very very evil things to others and they are best to be avoided while one clings to God having faith that he will sort things out.
