1 John 1:8-10 John Says We, present tense. It’s unambiguous and there for a very important reason... (Romans 10:3)

Grip, have you ever heard of Semitic styles of writing? This is a perfect example of the style of contrasts. We see it in chapter 3 as well, where the Hebrew writer goes back and forth contrasting one thought with the next.

chapter 1 is a contrast of light vs. darkness.

vs. 5 - light
vs. 6 - darkness
vs. 7 - light
vs. 8 - darkness
vs. 9 - light
vs. 10- darkness

Chapter 3 is on sin and contrasting of Jesus and of the devil

What do you see in 1 John 1:8? Is that a Christian, or before Christ? I say before.
It is before and after. When we first come to Christ we are new Chrsitians and learning more and more everyday (milk of the Word) through faith to believe and follow God's WORD. There is known sin that God reveals to us that we know about but as we GROW in the KNOWLEDGE of God's WORD (meat of the Word) and God's GRACE than God will reveal more things in our lives that we may not have known were sins before. This is called UNKNOWN SIN *JAMES 4:17. When God's WORD reveals sin to us he expects us to BELIEVE and FOLLOW His WORD. ACTS 17:30-31. In these times of IGNORANCE God winks us but when he gives us a KNOWLEDGE of what his truth is he calls all men everywhere to REPENT and believe and follow His WORD. This can be a work of a lifetime and is what some call sanctification. The aim here is God's WORK in us as we believe and follow HIs Word and walk in His Spirit to be more like JESUS (pefect in Christ). God only holds us accountable to what we know, not what we do not know.

God bless.

Jesus called us evil for a reason. Matthew 7:11

Only God is Good. (Luke 18:19)

He is the GOOD shepherd. :D

I was hoping for your question.

Are you unaware of what was born on Sanai?

We are cleansed from all the sin we know about. We cannot be cleansed from sin if we do not know something is sin until God reveals it to us *JAMES 4:17; ACTS 17:30-31. This is what is means to GROW in grace.

Do you know why God gave us His 10 commandments? What do you think the scriptures mean here *MATTHEW 5:20; MATTHEW 9:12-13; ROMANS 3:31; ROMANS 8:1-4; ROMANS 13:8-10; HEBREWS 8:10-12?

You "know" about? It doesn't say that. I don't think you have to be a scholar to be cleansed of all sin.

It does not say what? What do you think the scriptures posted mean *JAMES 4:17; ACTS 17:30-31 which say exactly that? You sound very much like someone else here that goes by the name of 1centurylady. Is that you as well do you mind me asking?

Times of ignorance were when they didn't know who the Messiah was, now they know. The time of ignorance is over.

As for James, if you walk in the Spirit you won't sin.

Sin reigned Long before the Law.

It has everything to do with these verses.

1 Corinthians 15:54-56 ; Hebrews 2:14

That is my answer.

What was born in Mt. Sanai?
