I think when Jesus said "that" He was referring to the immediate antecedent of the preceding clause, rather than a distant scripture His audience may or may not have related. Otherwise, He'd have likely said, "...as it is written...."

That may be if the Hebrew mindset works the same way as ours and Greek grammar as the English. Sometimes if the grammatical-historical approach doesn't make sense, there's always the Author to help out.

I see. Funny, I looked at several commentators and they all pretty much stated what I stated. Do you have any that support your stance?

God is merciful, forgives, and does not remembers sins of His children.

Isaiah 43:25
“I, even I, am the one who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake, And I will not remember your sins.

Hebrews 8:12
“For I will be merciful to their iniquities, And I will remember their sins no more.”

Hebrews 10:17
“And their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”
