  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No, because the world itself could not contain it, but what Is Written, is binding, whether you believe it or not.

John 21:25
"And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen."

This is all the more reason to believe that the little that was written and preserved...is most necessary.
The truth is Holy Scriptures completely destroys and calls out manmade traditions and personal idols.

Psalm 119:105-112 King James Version (KJV)
105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

106 I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep thy righteous judgments.

107 I am afflicted very much: quicken me, O Lord, according unto thy word.

108 Accept, I beseech thee, the freewill offerings of my mouth, O Lord, and teach me thy judgments.

109 My soul is continually in my hand: yet do I not forget thy law.

110 The wicked have laid a snare for me: yet I erred not from thy precepts.

111 Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart.

112 I have inclined mine heart to perform thy statutes alway, even unto the end. (KJV)

We find out the reason the Light coming into the world was not welcome:

John 3: NASB

19“This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. 20“For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.21“But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.”

Are you saying if the table of contents indicates Obadiah begins on page 799 and it actually starts on page 801 the fallible publisher just made the Bible fallible?

No, you asked which fallible humans wrote the bible. You can get a list of all the books they wrote by looking at the table of contents. Every single book there was written by a fallible human.

What is not negated by his statement is this:

“Paul, called as an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God”

It really seems here that many believe that God possessed people and made them write things. Truly many do not understand inspired

When you disparage the writers and the writings, you disparage the work of Yah Himself...even in us who believe...take heed!

It means he is an apostle of Jesus Christ.

Which means like Solomon, Paul has the wisdom of God.

Have you considered the advice Paul was given with regards to relationships?

No one said such.

I believe that the only infallible human being was Jesus (and he didn't write any of the books in the bible) so if that's some sort of insult to the bible writers, then they'll just need to get over it since I don't believe them to be God. God is God and only God is infallible.

How do we know the words spoken by Jesus? How did the Holy Spirit accomplish this? What does your personal canon look like?

That means he's a messenger, not a medium.

I think I understand where @redleghunter is coming from, though. I just think we need to be careful not turning a doctrine that was originally intended to be heard as Gospel, and emphasizing it as Law. That's essentially what can happen in "weaponizing the Scriptures". Then it's more than just about pointing us to the consolation in Christ, and more about trying to control other people according to our expectations.

And BTW, this is basically what the Orthodox and Catholics do with the notion of apostolicity. As I discussed in my own testimony recently, this can have lasting spiritual damage on a person's faith.

Apostle comes from the Greek word "apostolos" which means "messenger", and that's exactly what Paul did. He went around teaching and proclaiming the gospel message of Jesus Christ. It does not mean "has the wisdom of God". Not sure where you got that one.

Not so. You had better HOPE not so.
Hi Dave, good to see you. I was referring to killing sinners for sinning, and such laws. Not the 10 commandments. Sorry it was ambiguous.

The apostles did not have the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit?

I think it’s cool that you hold human beings in such high regard. I just have to leave room in my own mind to ponder if it’s possible such human beings either messed up something accidentally or on purpose. I’m not by any means saying they did I’m just saying if it’s possible I wanna take note. That’s why I asked some of you, do you think its possible some stuff in the Bible isn’t from God?
